District Updates

Dear Residents On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the staff we thank you for reading the Go Guide for all the fun Fall activities the district has planned for your enjoyment. The parks and programs were all very busy this past summer and we appreciate your continued support and patronage. The new Pickleball courts have received a great deal of play and if you have not yet played the game you need to check it out. There are paddles and balls available for free use at the Administration Office just stop in Monday through Friday to borrow them and return them after your finished. The Rivers Edge has scheduled times when the indoor pickleball court is available for use.

The fall is not just for being a spectator so get outdoors and hike, walk, bike, run in the parks or try climbing the wall at the Rivers Edge Recreation Center. The Belvidere Park District has 360 acres with over six miles of asphalt path located on ten sites so get out there and find and enjoy them all.

After years of planning and preparation the Doty Park Improvement project finally got underway this past April. The district hired Rockford Structures to transform Doty Park into an urban recreational park in the middle of Belvidere. Improvements to Doty Park include a spray pad, shade structure, restrooms, a changing/warming house, ice skating/hockey rink, landscaping, drinking fountains, playground equipment, new roads and parking. The park remains closed to the public at the present time but the recreational path along the Kishwaukee River and the pedestrian bridge will be open as much as possible throughout the construction season. It will be closed to park users on a limited basis to accommodate construction, heavy equipment, storage and staging areas for the project.

Check on the progress at the park district website www.belviderepark.org and for opening celebrations and specials at the Riverside Ice Arena.

In addition to all these activities the Belvidere Park District is a member of the Northlands Association for Special Recreation (NASR) which publishes a separate Program Guide book. NASR programs are open to any individuals with disability related special needs such as physical, mental, developmental disabilities and persons with mental illness, behavior disorders, visual or hearing impairments. For a copy of the NASR program guide simply stop by the Belvidere Park District Office or the NASR Program Building, 6581Revlon Drive, Belvidere, Illinois or call 815 547 5711 and request a copy and we’ll mail it to you.

Please stop by the Administration Office at 1006 West Lincoln Avenue, Belvidere, call 815 547 5711 or visit our

web site at www.belviderepark.org for updates on the Doty Park project and path closures.
