April showers to May showers to June showers, we cannot complain about a dry spring. Tere has been a lot of things going on since my last letter to the magazine.

On April 28, Duane Acklie was recognized as the Downtown Lincoln Rotary #14 Nebraskan of the Year. Every year they select an individual who has distinguished himself or herself through service to others in keeping with ideals of Rotary International. Mr. Acklie has, as we all know, fulfilled the criteria many times. We would like to offer our congratulations to Duane as he is truly deserving of this award.

Our spring legislative session has ended with the passing of the Fuel tax. A thank you to the staff, Larry and Patty, but also to our representative Dick Reiser for their hard work and diligence getting the additional funds to help repair and improve our infrastructure.

ATRI is part of the American Trucking Association and its primary mission is to conduct transportation research with an emphasis on the trucking industry’s essential role in a safe, efficient, and viable transportation system. Te surveys they send out and are passed along with our Association are the life blood of their research. Please when you receive these surveys from either ATRI or the Nebraska Trucking Association take the few minutes to fill them out. Your answers are appreciated as the more information they can gather the better the research is.

May 21 was the annual Spring Board of Director’s meeting and PAC Golf Fundraiser at Iron Horse Golf Club in Ashland. I would like to again thank all of the people and companies who sponsored the lunch, drink tickets and golf. It was a great day, dry for one, and we were enlightened by Chief Dave Lorenzen about an organization TAT (Truckers Against Trafficking ). Chief Lorenzen has 37 years of law enforcement, 32 of those with the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement Office. His presentation was the growing problem of human trafficking and how the truckers and trucking industry as a whole can be more eyes looking to help law enforcement stem this growing epidemic. TAT is an organization that is asking, if there is some suspicious activity, the only involvement needed is a simple phone call and let law enforcement take it from there. Te Nebraska trucking Association has additional information available with DVD’s and printed info.
