Punctuality
To ensure that your child settles and feels confident and secure here at Mission Grove it is essential that they are here for the beginning of every session.
We expect all children to be brought and picked up by an adult that is known to the school. If there is someone different collecting your child please ensure that we have been informed and that they bring some photo ID with them.
If your child is going to be absent, please inform the office as soon as possible, 02085320487. If your child has diarrhoea or vomiting sickness, please do not bring them back to school until 48 hours have passed to prevent other children becoming ill.
Special Books
Each child in the nursery will be given a special book where all of their achievements during their time here will be recorded. The books are full of photographs, observations and children’s art. We also value parents’ input and you will be given lots of opportunities to share your child’s achievements at home with us and these will be added to the book. The books are a great visual record of a child’s progress throughout their time with us.
Each child is allocated a ‘Key Worker’ and this is the person who will monitor progress, keep the ‘Special Book’ up to date and write end of year reports. The children are given time to look through the books with their Key Worker to show them how much they have achieved and talk about some of their favourite moments.
Settling in
It is important that both children and parents/carers feel comfortable and secure during the settling-in process, which is why we have a gradual step-by- step process.
It is also important that children and their parents/carers realise quickly that the nursery is a place where children can be happy and confident away from their main carer. This is why on the third visit children spend an hour in the nursery without their parent/carer.
Day 1 & 2:
Children and parents stay in the classroom for 1 hour and then go home.
Day 3:
Parents stay for 15 minutes and then children stay in the classroom for 45 minutes whilst parents and carers are nearby in our parent’s room.
Day 4:
Parent or carer settles their child for 5-10 minutes and then they are free to go home.
Please be aware that this is only a rough guide and that some children may take longer to settle. We have a range of strategies to help your child settle, so if they are having difficulties we will be happy to discuss them with you to find the best solution for your child.
