dated wardrobes. Just because you are retired, does not mean you have to wear the clothes you wore at your retirement party for 20 years. Grandmothers can be hip, too.
N
Crop tops showed up on the runway last spring in a big way. While the skin-baring tops are just too much for the more ma- ture crowd, the look can be ad- opted in quite an elegant manner by layering it over another top or dress. Think of the late Oscar de la Renta who often layered beau- tiful sheer crop tops over dresses. For example, the Vancouver-
ot all spring 2015 trends are suitable for mature silhouettes, but many can be adapted to add punch to your out-
2015 offers up a softer blue and white as an alternative: not nautical navy but much softer blue combinations for a more feminine look. Or you can be brave and go
head to toe white. To avoid be- ing mistaken for a hospital or- derly, you should select various textures, hues and layers. Yellow is big this spring. So

based, Sympli line, offers a great shorty top which can be ordered in various sleeve lengths, from sleeveless to long sleeves. Shown here over a dress (left), this makes an elegant picture. Also, when travelling, a crop top can transform many an outfit from day to evening wear. Sheers are still very much alive this spring.
They are cool and light, and can be crisp or soft depending on the fabric. They are won- derful on their own for a soft feminine look in a dress or layered over other pieces for a fresh look. Try a beautiful silk chiffon hand-painted poncho to jazz up any outfit. What is spring without spring flowers? De-
signers interpret this look each year in their own style. For 2015 it shows up in bold, bright patterns, mainly on dresses and skirts. Who thought gingham was going to be the
new black? Not one of my favourite looks, but designers are showing gingham from tops to bottoms and even in suiting, with checks run- ning from small to very large. Black and white is always popular for spring.
You can mix in some of that comfortable win- ter black in pants or skirts with fresh white tops. Or choose fabrications with bold white and black prints. Black and white too stark for you? Spring

you do not want to look like Big Bird! Choose a yellow tone that is complementary to your skin tone. From amber to canary to saffron or marigold there is the right tone of yellow for you. Choose a top or jacket for punch, layered over a more subtle piece. I wore an old favourite lemon- yellow sweater to work last week; everyone complimented me on the colour and wanted to
rush out and buy a yellow sweater. A clear sign of spring. Some classic lines are back. Polo shirts made popular in the seventies by Ralph Lauren are showing up on runways over great flowing skirts. Paired with flat shoes, this makes a great outfit that you can even wear to a summer out- door wedding. Add a great necklace and you can be comfortable and elegant. By the way, flat shoes are still making a big
splash. Hurrah for all of us who had given up on high heels. Finally we can go out for an eve- ning and wear the same shoes all night. Another classic look this spring are shirt- dresses. Usually shown with rolled up sleeves and a smart belt, this is one of those classic looks we have not seen for some time. Finally some Japanese influence is creeping
into outerwear. The spring trench coat has been modified to look more than a bathrobe or kimono. Of course, we Winnipeggers spend little time in spring trench coats as we strip off our winter clothes in a mad dash for the summer shorts (except this spring, so far). Too cold to work in the yard?
