Meet the latest Oz sensation
Sticky Fingers
SOME bands meet from lame Gumtree ads, while others are formed with a touch of the di- vine. One summer’s night some years ago, on a drunken street in Newtown. Dylan Frost was wrapping up a fruitless nights busking. Paddy walked past, when a by-standing bouncer commanded he, “give the bloke some coin, brew.” Instead, Paddy and Dyz struck
up a chat. Bonding over mutual hobbies, soon, associate degen- erates Hollywood, Crabz and Beaker banded together, and Sticky Fingers was born. Debut album, Caress Your
Soul, dropped in March 2013, with multiple charting singles and a spot on Australia’s JJJ Hottest 100. The album went into the top 40 in Australia and stayed in the top 50 for 3 weeks. Three singles went onto high rotation on national Australian radio. Caress Your Soul peaked at number 17 on the Aria single charts. The band sold out every venue thrown at them, then they boarded a plane to Europe. That tour, in May 2013, saw
the boys playing in a total of 32 dates in 40 days through Holland, the UK and France. This included live radio per- formances with 3FM in Hol- land and RTL2 in Paris. With a plethora of international shows again in 2014, including two sell-out shows at The Ga- rage in London, they dropped Land of Pleasure in summer 2014, with singles: Gold Snafu, Just For You, Liquorlip Loaded Gun and Fake A Smile racking up over a million plays on You- Tube. The latest single from Velvet Skies, features touring buddy Lyall Moloney, who’ll join the band at Bristol’s Fleece tonight.

AndyHowells recently put questions toAmerican rockers Timeshares
American band Timeshare are current- ly touring the UK and recently released their album Already Dead. Andy Howells recently put ques- tions to band member Jason Mosher.
Where are you all from? We’re all from different areas in
New York. For the past couple years I’ve lived in Philadelphia.
Tell us about your new album... Already Dead is a pretty logical
progression from our first record. Musically it’s still a punk record I think. We like loud guitars and pretty melodies. We just got to dig a little deeper into a palette of influences people might not have expected so much. Thematically, if our first re- cord was a big “What the hell do I do now?”, I think this one is multiple attempts at answering that question.
What’s been your best live experi- ence? It’s difficult to say. The safe answer
is any time they’ve had us down at the FEST in Gainesville, Florida. It’s one of our favorite times of the year and we’ve always been received pret- ty warmly. I remember the first time Timeshares played FEST, before we even had a record out, on the first line of the first song a beer exploded right in front of me and Mike (Natoli). Feels like home.
What else have you got planned this year? Well, we want to be on the road as
much as we can. Making the record and getting it out is the tough part, now we get to just go out and play it everywhere. We want to start hitting a ton of the US in August, and then we play FEST in October. We’ve been writing again too, so who knows? Maybe new songs sooner than later.
Where can people hear your music? You can find us on Bandcamp, Fa- cebook, Spotify, iTunes and all that sort of thing, but if you dig it you can buy a copy of Already Dead from the lovely folks at SideOneDummy!
The most talked about talent you don’t know
ESKA is the most talked about, revered singer you’ve probably never heard of. Prepare to be let in on one of music’s best kept secrets in 2015 when Eska finally releases her self-titled debut album. Possessing one of the best
and most memorable voices in the UK right now, Eska weaves together diverse mu- sical elements – hints of folk, soul, psychedelia and elec- tronica and pairs them with stirring lyrics, born from burning passion. Eska has created something pure and timeless which echoes past traditions, while at the same time managing to surprise
with its stunning original- ity.
In the UK, Eska’s music
has already created a buzz; receiving strong radio sup- port from tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Lauren Laverne and John Kennedy. Her debut self-released EP was heralded by global inde- pendent community Band- camp in their ‘Best Releases of 2013’. Having built an inimitable
reputation as a writer and performer through collabo- rations with such legends of the game as Grace Jones, Cinematic Orchestra, Zero 7 and Bobby McFerrin to- gether with performances
in some of the world’s most famous venues and festivals, it’s time to dis- cover Eska’s own unique sound in full force. The self-titled debut album Eska hosts production credits from cult British electronic artist Matthew Herbert (known for re- mixing Björk, R.E.M. and Yoko Ono), Louis ‘slipperz’ Hackett and Dave Okumu of The Invisible (previous winners of iTunes ‘Album of the Year’ in the UK.) Catch Eska at The Lan-
tern, Bristol on May 27. See
eskaonline.com for further details of the gig.
