Gently making things better
The OCC is here for all children, whatever their problems and however young they happen to
be.In fact, we are welcomed by hospital neo-natal units to treat premature babies in incubators and on ventilators, so delicate is the touch of our osteopaths.
At our clinic in Point Pleasant, Wandsworth, we also look after mothers before they give birth, as well as afterwards together with their new-borns, which helps things go more smoothly and makes a lot of difference to family life when everyone is trying to adjust.
Our paediatric osteopaths are committed professionals, treating hundreds of children, from babies and toddlers to angst-ridden adolescents and A-level students, every week of the year. All of which we have to fund ourselves: although we save the NHS quite a lot of money, we get no Government backing whatsoever. Added to this, we have always stuck to our original promise of never turning anyone away through inability to pay.
So all in all we’ve got our work cut out for us, needing to raise £1 million every year simply to survive. But we think it’s worth it, because what we do is both unique and, in our view, essential to our patients’ quality of life. As one grateful father said of his daughter: “Osteopathy was the only thing that brought relief during a terrible period in her life.”
We hope you’ll get involved in fund-raising on our behalf in the community – it can be a lot of fun. We’ve got a 10K run coming up, but any ideas of your own would be appreciated and we’ll give you all the support we can.
