Live stage show is truly gripping

TERRIFYING: The Woman In Black

THE most terrifying live ex- perience in the world, The Woman in Black, comes to Cardiff from Tuesday, May 5 to Saturday, May 9. The immensely-popular production has celebrated 25 years in the West End, thrill- ing audiences young and old with its unique blend of sus- pense, drama and bold stage- craft. With only a handful of props and two actors playing all the roles, it’s an intelligent and gripping theatrical explo- ration of terror. The increasing love for the show recently led to a very

successful film adaptation starring Daniel Radcliffe; however, the stage play re- mains true to Susan Hill’s excellent Gothic novel, and has enthralled over seven mil- lion people since its original debut. The Woman in Black is at

the New Theatre from Tues- day, May 5 to Saturday, May 9. Tickets are on sale nowwith

tickets from £8.50 to £26.00. For further details about the

show or to book tickets visit newtheatrecardiff.co.uk or call the Box Office on 02920 878889.

Story of one man to be told on stage

PREVIEW performances of Flying Bridge Theatre Com- pany’s World War One dra- ma Between The Crosses take place at Newport Riverfront this weekend. The brand new one man

show written and performed by William Huggins is di- rected and produced by New- port’s own Daniel Llewelyn Williams who also wrote and starred in the recent produc- tion of A Regular Little Hou- dini.

Family Drama Between the Crosses is an

entertaining and moving true story of Edgar, a young horseman who has dreams of seeing the world and who joins the British Army. But the date is January 1914 and soon Edgar will find himself in the churning storm of metal, mud and blood that is the western front. Years later Edgar Huggins recorded his memories in an interview with the Imperial War museum and so in his own voice and with the aid of his Great Nephew Will Huggins, Edgar tells how his thirst for foreign travel saw him join the Army just months before war; how his experience with breaking in horses saw him employed as a company groom; how his job as a groom brought him into contact with Captain, a beautiful horse on whom he’d carry vital messages “through the heat and flame of Ypres”, heat so intense, Captain’s mane would some- times be on fire; how he and his company marched straight into the first Ger- man poisoned gas attack; how he partook in the sec-

ond battle of the Somme, which saw Edgar wounded by a snipers bullet; and how after the war there was a heart-warming and miracu- lous reunion with Captain his trusty steed. Displaying a show of im-

mense integrity and sober- ing humanity, Between the Crosses is a story of surviv- al, loss and hope. The show is on tonight and tomorrow at Newport River- front at 7.45pm. Visit tickets. newportlive.co.uk
