ROCK quartet, InMe, have recently revealed they are currently in the studio working on a mammoth three-record concept album project. The band launched a PledgeMusic campaign to help fund the first part, The Trilogy: Dawn, last month. In addition to unveiling details of the

new project, the band have also an- nounced a lengthy run of UK tour dates and festivals in support of the record including Cardiff’s Globe on May 7 and Bristol’s Exchange on May 8. With next year marking their 20th anni-

versary as a band, it’s been a long road for this Essex band of brothers who have consistently weathered the ever-changing storm of the music industry and come out fighting. The Trilogy is undoubtedly their most ambitious project to date and looks set to be the crowning jewel in an already impressive collection of material. Andy Howells recently put questions to Dave McPherson of the band.

Who are you and how did you come together? We’re InMe & we originally formed in

1996 with our drummer Si & myself Dave. My brother Greg joined the ranks in 2006 followed by Gazz on 2nd guitar in 2010.

Where are you from? Originally we’re from Brentwood, Essex

but these days we’re scattered around various towns in Essex as well as Gazz who resides in Brighton.

Tell us about your new album... It’s split into three, Dawn, Sentience and

Quietus which represent birth, life and death basically. The first album Dawn is about birth, childhood and youth and as such as an upbeat rock album. The next will be about adulthood and life and will be an introspective atmospheric album. The last album will explore the closing chapters of life. Each song on each al- bum has a matching sub-heading so for example the songs with the ‘Reverie’

CONCEPT ALBUM: InMe

sub-heading will explore dreams in differ- ent ways. For the birth album the song is about a recurring childhood dream, for the life album it’s about a lifelong dream and ambition, for the death album it’s about meeting loved ones we’ve lost in our dreams. People will likely think the whole thing is pretentious but it’s really fun to work on so I’m ok with that.

What’s been your best live experience? There’s too many to name really as

we’ve had so many shows in various guises, intimate ones, main stage festi- val appearances and downright strange shows. Today I’m going with Harlow

Square in 2010 as it was the first time my girlfriend saw us play which makes it a special one for me and it was a packed blinding show with tonnes of mates.

What can people expect from your forthcoming Cardiff gig? A lovely mix of all 7 of our studio albums

including five songs from Trilogy: Dawn, our latest album. There will be intensity, fun and a tonne of musical energy flying about the place. Plus the main support act The Dirty Youth are from near there I believe so it should have even more of a celebratory vibe.

80s spirit rising at festival Festival

DOCTOR and the Medics will be dusting downsome of their greatest hits from the 80s at this year’s Devauden Music Festival. The band is best known for their No 1 hit Spirit in the Sky which catapulted them into the top ten with regular ap- pearances on Top of Pops. Since then the group, still fronted by The Doctor - Brecon-based Clive Jackson - and joined on vocals by Melis- sa Weeks, have continued to tour and have developed a reputation as a great live act. The Doctor said: “Festivals

are the lifeblood of the Med- ics. They encapsulate every- thing we love. Getting people together to celebrate music and the British Summertime

is a magical formula and the ripples of happiness spread far beyond the festi- val boundaries and long after the weekend. We are really looking forward to our first appearance at the Devauden Festival especially as our first single for quarter of a century will be released.” Festival director Jeremy

Horton added, “It’s amazing that this well known band has agreed to performduring the Fifth Festival. “They will bring an excit-

ing new dimension to the planned line-up.” Among the groups perform-

ing during ‘Folk Friday’ are Rusty Shackle, Sion Russel Jones, The Apple Tree Theo- ry, Shimai and the Chepstow School Folk Group. ‘Rocking Saturday’s’ line-

up includes The Cradles, Junior Bill and the Scallies,

What else have you got planned this year? I’m working on a solo album, touring

with that and InMe, recording the next Trilogy album later in the year plus try- ing some other wacky musical pursuits including recording outside in the wilder- ness plus something special for the fans of our first two albums in Autumn. Other than that I’m hoping to get two kittens soon.

Where can people hear your music? iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp and more.

Best place to get the latest album, Trilogy: Dawn, is from our PledgeMusic page.
