fandom is yet to subside, and Mitte admits he is often asked to autograph cereal boxes, sometimes receiving packs of bacon as a gift (a nod to Walt Jr’s fondness for breakfast). And yet, despite all of this – not to mention the admission he’ll unlikely get a better role for the rest of his career – RJ Mitte’s never actually seen Breaking Bad, as he can’t stand watching himself on screen. An- other beautiful irony: he might be one of the few adults on Earth not to have been engrossed by the show. “I’ll stay that way,” Mitte smirks, taking a sip of
grapefruit juice. “A lot of times [fans] quote my own lines. They’ll be like, ‘Do a Walt Jr line.’ I’m like, ‘Oh… what?’” RJ pauses, searching his brain. “There was one episode where all I did was yawn. I come into the scene, yawn, then leave the scene. Maybe that’s what I’ll start doing.”

lown into London as a guest of honour at the Brit Awards, Mitte is using his brief so- journ to England’s capital as something of a promotional tour (“taking meetings, press- ing the flesh”). Little wonder, as there’s an abundance of things to talk about. First up is RJ’s foray into music, with an eight- date, US-spanning DJ tour booked this
month. A lover of “everything from old jazz and classical to modern day dub”, ever-modest Mitte is keen to point out he’s “not a professional”, but nonetheless will grace stages in San Diego, New York and San Francisco, before ending the jaunt in Las Vegas with the set packed full of original mash-ups curated by Mitte himself. So far, so professional. And, just as a little treat for the legion of BB obsessives who will no doubt attend, RJ reveals that music from the series will form an integral part of each performance. “In Breaking Bad we have six seasons in total,” says
Mitte, noting the two halves of the climactic series. “Without giving too much away, I plan on creating six sets, incorporating music from each season. I haven’t had time to do anything yet, so this month I’m locking myself in a room and doing nothing but eat, sleep and dream this.” Then there’s Mitte’s burgeoning side-line as a male model. In a move not all that dissimilar to his former co-star Miley Cyrus distancing herself from Disney by reinventing herself as an NSFW, tongue-waggling song- stress, not long after Breaking Bad wrapped RJ starred in an arty, gothic-looking photo-shoot for Dark Beauty magazine, alongside models not wearing much in the way of clothing. “This is Walt Jr after Breaking Bad,” RJ joked on Twitter. Since then, Mitte has starred in Gap’s Lived In advertising campaign last year and admits he once held talks over catwalk modelling at Milan Fash- ion Week. Such demand should come as no surprise, as with his dark, slicked-back locks and chiselled features,
