Reservoir dots

There was a time when, if you wanted to buy a piece of art, you would have to remortgage your home first. But a new art fair coming to the UAE is hoping to put an end to all that, by offering affordable pieces from more than 80 galleries from around the world. World Art Dubai takes place this month at the Dubai World Trade Centre, and around 1,000 pieces (think paintings, sculptures, photographs and more) by 100 artists will be available, including this one by Turkish artist Melisa Mizrakli, called Number 8, which is being shown by New York’s Emmanuel Fremin Gallery. While you might instantly think it looks like the gang of crooks from Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Mizrakli uses dots and bubbles instead of heads to dehumanise her subjects and hates them being labelled, simply saying of her work: “They are whatever you see when you look at them.”
