El Pasado Nunca se Termina In another celebration of San Diego Opera’s


50th Anniversary Season, the Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlán returns to the San Diego Civic Theatre on Saturday, April 25 with an entirely new Mariachi opera. From the same team who created the 2013 sold-out hit Cruzar la Cara de la Luna, the new opera, El Pasado Nunca se Termina, is shaped from the following events, “In 1910, Halley’s Comet appeared in the sky over Mexico and many believed it foretold bloodshed and upheaval to come. Smoldering restlessness fu- eled by abject poverty force cultural clashes and impact generations to come.”

Neil Giraldo, are hitting the Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego on Tuesday, April 14, to deliver a little blast from the past and prove once again that “We Belong” still fits their brand. Bruce Hornsby is also per- forming at the Balboa Theatre two days later on Thursday, April 16. Hornsby may be best remembered for his hit “The Way it Is,” but has gone on to be a prolific performer across classical, jazz, bluegrass, folk, Motown, gospel, rock, blues, and jam band musical traditions. HILLCREST WIND ENSEMBLE In celebration of the 2015 Panama-California cen-


tennial celebration of the world-famous Balboa Park, the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble is “pulling out all the stops” on Saturday, April 25, for their next concert at the San Diego Women’s Club in Banker’s Hill. Pieces selected, were chosen from the opening concert for the original 1915 exposition and include, “Proces- sional Montezuma March,” “William Tell Overture,” “Orpheus in the Underworld” and “Unfold, Ye Portals.” Other era-appropriate pieces feature “Panamerica,” “Tobasco: Ragtime Waltz,” “Lucy’s Sextet,” “I Love You California” to name just a few.
