TRANSGENDER DAY

OF EMPOWERMENT 2015 Taking place, once again this year at The San

Diego LGBT Community Center, The 12th Annual Transgender Day of Empowerment is happening on Friday, April 10. The memoriam event is held to celebrate, empower and honor the transgender community, raise visibility and awareness about the issues that they face and to commemorate those who have been lost to transphobic violence. This yearly remembrance is offered as a special moment of connection for many who are often discriminated against, personally, professionally and in fact, by the legal system, which offers little precedence for protection. This year’s Day of Em- powerment is focused on transgender women of color, with guest speakers who include Prizila Dajia Vidal, an activist who works with youth and the HIV community and A.T. Furuya, an SDSU student and local transgender activist who volunteers with youth and for Trans Pride, among other things. Out and married to his partner of 20+ years, Van Praagh will be appearing in En- cinitas at the Seaside Center for Spiritual Living, 1613 Lake Drive, on Friday, April 17, beginning with a 6 p.m. reception.
