hy are we so afraid to ask for what we want in life? For most of us, it’s the fear of rejection. We hate to hear the word “no” and we take it so personally. I believe part of the reason is because as chil- dren we hear the word no so often; it becomes ingrained in our soul as painful and something to be avoided at all cost. But what does it really mean when someone tells us no? All it really means is that we’re still in the same place as when we started – not better off, but not worse off
W either. So that means that we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Asking for something that we want can sometimes be seen as taking a risk. And in order to be successful, we know that we have to take risks. It truly scares me to think of all the outcomes that could have happened and all of the things I could have had, but I was too afraid to ask. When you start to contemplate this, it will become more painful NOT to ask for what you want, than it is to take the risk of asking.
Speaking of asking for what we want…I have a great example to share with you.
As many of you read in our February issue, my long-term partner and graphic designer recently left the magazine. The months prior to his leaving, I put out to the Universe that I needed someone with similar skills and creativity to take his place. Within a month, I met Ashley Frament! Ashley is originally from the Capitol Region of New York State, where she grew up and earned a BFA in Graphic Design from The College of Saint Rose in Albany. After living in NYC for 4 fun-fi lled years, she moved to the New Haven area and established her own graphic design business, specializing in marketing and printed materials for small businesses. When she’s not designing Ashley loves to cook, bake, and sample all the craft beers she can fi nd. We are thrilled to have her on board with Natural Nutmeg!

1. Use tea tree oil to disinfect surfaces like countertops, doorknobs and toilets. Mix 2 cups of hot water with 2 tablespoons of borax, ½ teaspoon liquid dish soap and ½ teaspoon of tea tree oil. Pour into a spray bottle, shake well and use it on any surface.
2. Deodorize carpets by sprinkling with baking soda, allow to sit overnight, and vacuum thoroughly the following day.

3. Skip the usual toxic drain cleaners and use a combination of baking soda and vin- egar. Pour ¾ cup of baking soda into the clogged drain, and then follow with ½ cup of white vinegar. Plug the drain and allow sitting for 30 minutes, rinsing the drain with hot/boiling water.
4. Polish wood furniture with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of olive oil and ¼ cup of lemon juice. This will result in a brilliant shine, without the waxy build-up of traditional wood polish products.
5. Sanitize your sponges by soaking them in heavily salted water for 1-2 hours.
6. Freshen your fridge with coffee. Simply place an opened bag or container of coffee ground or coffee beans in the refrigerator for several days. The coffee will absorb and remove any odors. Be sure to toss the coffee when you are done!
