The Art and Science of Creativity. Edison T. Liu, M.D., President and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory, will track through music and lecture, the commonality between art and science and how human beings are hardwired to create. Using piano pieces to underscore his points, he will dis- cuss how both art and science find comfort in patterns and define how to create some- thing from nothing. Part piano recital and part lecture, this event will both entertain and enlighten, showing how creativity and innovation in art and science has impact on all our lives. Space is limited! Reiki Workshop for Kids. Also April 11th. This Reiki Workshop for Kids is for energy sensitive learners, ages 9-12. The activities presented will engage students in learn- ing what Reiki is; hand positions for self- healing; the Reiki Principles and the chakra system. Students will learn how to use Reiki energy to empower themselves in various situations. This class is separated into two meetings and commitment to both times is necessary to attend. A certificate will be presented at the end of the second meeting. This class is being taught by Reiki Master Susan Kane, a veteran elementary school teacher of more than 30 years. A new kind of Urban Runoff will soon be seen in Southern Maine! Runners and walkers will be hitting streets and trails in Portland for the Urban Runoff 5K and walk to raise awareness of water pollution and raise money to support clean water education in local schools. The date of the Urban Runoff was chosen to coincide with Earth Day and spring’s “first flush” of stormwater pollution. The Urban Runoff will lead into Green Neighbor Family Fest. 29th Annual Chocolate Lovers’ Fling. Talented local chocolatiers, from York and Cumberland counties, will showcase their creativity and serve their ultimate choco- late confections. Chocolatiers compete for awards, including the prized People’s Choice award. All attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the judging process, and will receive expert guidance in chocolate appreciation. Attendees can also look forward to meeting the chocolatiers and placing bids in a silent auction featur- ing jewelry, art, getaways, and of course, chocolate.
