Let’s Torque Calibration

The requirement for accurately applied torque in wind turbines is very broad; from as low as 100 N·m, e.g. for fibreglass body assembly in the nacelle during manufacturing, to circa 6000 N·m plus for sections of body tube assembly.

REGULAR AND RELIABLE CALIBRATION PARAMOUNT Regular and reliable calibration of any torque tool is paramount in order to keep the tool functioning as expected and to maintain the production, assembly, performance and maintenance of wind turbines at their optimum. Calibration assures the accuracy of tools and provides traceability for monitoring and audit purposes.

OPERATION & MAINTENANCE O&M teams can address this need through standard torque measurement instruments. However a significant concern of introducing a torque tester into an environment, where people are not calibration specialists, is that

incorrect test parameters could be selected which would result in tool inaccuracies and consequently joint failure.

SUPERIOR ACCURACY When superior accuracy, selectable parameters and a UKAS certificate are required the Pro-Test range (1.2 N·m – 1500 N·m) offers a straightforward alternative for measuring and testing of torque wrenches and has a five reading memory capability.

DEDICATED HYDRAULIC MODE For hydraulic wrenches the T-Box XL has a dedicated hydraulic mode. Used in conjunction with our hydraulic wrench calibration fixture, T-Box XL can test and calibrate hydraulic tools. The T-Box XL and TDMS (Torque Data Management System) software are the complete solution for torque tool calibration, data management and archiving results on a PC.

COMPREHENSIVE RANGE Norbar offers a comprehensive range of torque tightening and measuring devices and calibration services to the relevant standards. Accredited by UKAS and the equivalent bodies around the globe, laboratories are accredited for torque measurements between 0.005 N·m and 108,500 N·m or the imperial equivalents.

Whether Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams are using pneumatic multipliers, electric multipliers, such as EvoTorque (see page 28, issue 24), manual multipliers (with digital or click wrenches) or hydraulic wrenches; they all need to be properly and reliably calibrated.

TESTING AND CALIBRATION NEEDS Norbar offer instruments that cater for all testing and calibration needs. Where torque wrenches are used, typically in applications with torques ranging from 0.1 N·m to 2000 N·m, the TruCheck range offers a simple to use entry level product for testing tools. Employed together with a power test fixture, the TruCheck also provides a means of checking and testing pneumatic and electric tools.
