Man cuddled girls to win trust
A COXHEATH man has been jailed for seven years for sexual of- fences involving two young girls. David Bloomfield (62) was sen-
tenced following a retrial at Maid- stone Crown Court, where he was con- victed of crimes between Febru- ary 2011 and May 2012.
Bloomfield, formerly of The Beacons, Cox- heath, gained
the trust of his victims by cuddling them and allowing them to play computer games, but then manipu- lated their trust to commit abuse. He was initially arrested in May
2012 in connection with offences against four children. Hedenied all the allegations and a
trial jury last yearwas unable to find him guilty in connection with of- fences relating to two of the children and a retrialwas ordered.
At the retrial Bloomfield was
found guilty of one count of engag- ing in sexual activity in the presence of a child, two counts of causing and inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity and one of sexual assault. He was sentenced to seven years
in prison on February 6 and must sign on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely. He was also made the subject of a sexual offences preven- tion order, until further notice. DC Darren Smitherman said:
“The courts have recognised that Bloomfield is a dangerous and predatory man and he now will be punished for his crimes. “I would like to thank the victims
and their relatives who have been brave enough to come forward and testify against Bloomfield. Sadly, these children will no doubt carry the mental scars of his crimes with them for a long time but I hope they will be able to move forward from this, knowing that Bloomfield is now safely behind bars.”

downsmail.co.uk Car crashes into school
POLICE, paramedics and the fire service were called to Marden Primary School after a car veered off the road and crashed into the school wall. The accident happened at 7am.
Little more than an hour later, the pavement would have been teeming with parents and chil- dren on their way to school. The black Volkswagen Polo mounted the pavement and ploughed into the boundary wall at the school in Goudhurst Road. It then careered through rail-
ings before hitting a telegraph pole. The only person on the scene
at that time was the school care- taker, Krzysztof Tarka, who was opening up for the day ahead. A man, believed to be in his
30s, was disorientated but did not require medical treatment. Police took a statement from
the man, who was picked up by friends. One lane of the road was
closed until low-hanging elec- tricity cables could be made se- cure and thewall made safe.
Search for town manager
THE search is on for a new town centre manager for Maidstone. The directors of Maidstone Town Centre Management are about to advertise the post left vacant by the retirement of Bill Moss, but two “eminently suitable” people have already made an unofficial ap- proach, TCM members were told. The job profile has been revised and recruitment plans were fi- nalised at the TCM board meeting. The post is likely to be advertised
on the Association of Town Centre Management website and locally.
The TCM is also in the process of appointing a new chairman to re- place Paul Alcock, who also re- signed recently.
Parking refused
A PLAN for two parking spaces in Boughton Monchelsea has been re- fused. Maidstone Council felt the planning application for Harts House in Bottlescrew Hill would have caused harm to the listed building and the conservation area.
