Comedian Miles Allen discusses his Breaking Bad parody which comes to StDavid’sHall thisweek

Walter to take stage in Cardiff

ONE MAN. 62 episodes. One show… It takes a brave soul to tackle all five seasons of smash-hit TV series Break- ing Bad in one evening. But that’s the task LA actor Miles Allen has set himself. One Man Breaking Bad is set to take Cardiff by storm when St David’s Hall is trans- formed into Albuquerque, New Mexico for one night only on Wednesday March 4. And after this supercharged show you’ll definitely re- member his name! Join him on a rip-roaring

ride through the greatest tel- evision showever made as he channels Walt, Jesse, Saul, Skyler and all the other char- acters through one body. His incredible impressions

have led to over a million hits on YouTube, and sell-out runs at festivals in Melbourne and Edinburgh. At last year’s Fringe all 8,000 tickets were snapped up over 24 perfor- mances making it easily one of the festival’s top-selling shows. Written and directed by Matthew Hardy, this show is a must for all Breaking Bad fans. And if you haven’t seen the series yet, what better introduction is there than this whirlwind re-telling of the classic show at St David’s Hall?

Miles recently answered some questions on this unique show.

Interview

How would you describe One Man Breaking Bad? It’s a farcical love letter to all the people who went through the bloodbath and tears of Breaking Bad and who are wanting to kind of go on a nostalgia trip and laugh at all the different things that made it so special to them. It follows roughly the same timeline and the same plot points, condensed into a much shorter time frame. There are jokes I play on different scenes, including the more serious moments where we have an interesting take on them that leaves the audience in stitches. Along the way there are other pop culture references. It’s like a fusion of solo theatre and stand-up. Sometimes I’ll make comments about the se- ries and my own experience with it plus there’s a bunch of other different impres- sions in the show like Family Guy, Back To The Future and Lord Of The Rings.

Which characters from the show are featured? All the main characters are there: Walt, Jesse, Skyler, Walt Jr, Hank, Mike, Gustavo Fring, Marie, Todd, Uncle Jack, the Salamanca twins, and Saul of course, and a few secondary characters too.

PARODY: One Man Breaking Bad

You’ve hailed it as “the greatest TV show ever made.” Why? Because with every aspect of it everything is at 110%. The writing, the acting – and not just a single actor but the ensemble of actors – the mu- sic, the editing… Everybody seemed to be on their game and I think better than any other story I’ve ever seen put on screen it looks at the con- cept of the slippery slope. It’s a very philosophical piece. In

Family musical will be a favourite thing to see

ONE of the greatest musi- cals of all time, The Sound of Music, comes to Cardiff from Tuesday, 17 March until Sat- urday 28. Starring Danielle Hope

(Over the Rainbow) and Steven Houghton (Corona- tion Street & London’s Burn- ing) this new production, based on Baroness Maria von Trapp’s autobiography, will enchant and enthrall the young and the young at heart. The unforgettable score fea- tures some of the most mem- orable songs ever performed on stage, including Edel-

weiss, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Moun- tain, and of course, the title song – The Sound of Music. Playing the iconic role of Maria von Trapp is Dan- ielle Hope, who captured the hearts of the country when she won BBC Television’s Over the Rainbow and made her professional debut as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium. Danielle has since played Eponine in Les Miserables in London’s West End and Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream- coat.

Joining the company as Captain von Trapp is much- loved stage and television star Steven Houghton. Well known for his longstanding television roles in Coronation Street and London’s Burning, Olivier Award-nominated ac- tor Steven has taken on lead- ing roles in Spend, Spend, Spend, Blood Brothers, White Christmasand Grease. The Sound of Music: New Theatre, Tuesday 17-Satur- day, 28 March. Tickets are on sale now with tickets from £14.00 to £45.00. Visit www. newtheatrecardiff.co.uk. Box Office: 029 2087 8889.

CLASSIC: The Sound Of Music

the first episode the question is posed: Is a morally com- promising decision based on good intentions justified? I believe the rest of the series is an answer to that ques- tion and I think the answer is complex but also there’s a clear end result they show that comes from it.

With Better Call Saul now being shown on TV are you keeping an eye on that to see if it might fit the bill

for another one of your parody projects? Oh yes! I don’t want to give anything away about my show but I’m definitely keep- ing an eye on Better Call Saul. Who knows? A One Man Better Call Saul might be in the works. Tickets are still available priced £18.50 (plus a £2.95 ticket service charge). To book, visit stdavidshall- cardiff.co.uk or call 029 2087 8444.
