Designer Jean-Philippe Nuel’s sophisticated interior of Le Cinq Codet

Le Cinq Codet opened last November and is housed in a former France Telecom building dating from the 1930s. Designer Jean-Philippe Nuel, who has a knack for transforming heritage buildings into contemporary hotels, has created another masterpiece, with guest rooms that resemble sophisticated Parisian apartments,

particularly the duplex rooms, which are strongly reminiscent of artists’ lofts. The custom decor is drool-worthy from the lobby onwards, where giant overhead lamps illuminate marble reception desks that reference Auguste Rodin’s works – indeed, the museum dedicated to the sculptor is just a short walk away.

The elegant rooms are quite comfortable and every need is anticipated, including such nice touches as Nespresso machines and Fragonard bath products. Did we mention the views of Les Invalides’ golden dome? In fact, the ‘Le Dôme’ suite has a magnificent private terrace that wraps around the building and a Jacuzzi for soaking up the spectacular vista, which also encompasses the Eiffel Tower. Add in a beautiful spa and a fantastic restaurant, and you might find it difficult to leave the hotel at all. Tel: +33 1 53 85 15 60 Email: Contact@le5codet.com www.le5codet.com

residential corner of the 5th arrondissement, not far from the Jardin des Plantes and the Rue Mouffetard, the ancient market street that’s a favourite shopping destination for off-duty chefs. Last year, the hotel’s owners, the Cauet family, recruited young Parisian design duo Flavie+Paul to refresh their three-star hotel’s interior. The result is a colourful and playful ambiance, as evidenced by the ‘Morning’ and ‘Evening’ salons. The former allows you to start your day by studying city maps at a shared work table in the light-filled reception room, while the latter makes for a convivial soirée and invites you to take a seat in one of the plush lounge chairs situated in front of the ‘virtual fireplace’ (a screen projection).
