All of this ongoing experience and education helps members keep their existing skills sharp and make them even sharper over time. Just how many years someone has been a member and how much experience and ongoing training they've gone through are indicated by their certification level within the NKBA. Some of these certifications are:
• AKBD - Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer • CKD - Certified Kitchen Designer • CBD - Certified Bathroom Designer
• CMKBD - Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer
While someone might have more time in, you can feel comfortable hiring someone at any of these certification levels. (For a list of certifications take a look at pages 40 & 41.)
In addition to design and building skills, NKBA members must adhere to high standards of ethics and professionalism.
A successful kitchen or bath project depends on more than just technical skills. It also depends on the contractor or designer’s ability to communicate and establish a trusting relationship with their clients. That is why the NKBA places so much emphasis on superior professional conduct and ethical standards.
NKBA members pride themselves on their ability to listen to your wants and needs, taking them and turning them into your ideal kitchen or bath. And if something you thought you wanted isn’t going to work, they are able to offer you better alternatives that you might not even know existed or felt you could afford. You know all your options, as well as how much they should cost and how much time and effort it should take to bring them to fruition.

Ultimately, NKBA members have pride in their work. It shows in both their workmanship and their respect for the clients who trust them enough to allow them into their homes.
Your kitchen or bathroom is exactly what you envisioned, or better, after using the best, most cost effective, and energy efficient materials and techniques.
Much of the most innovative building materials and design and construction methods were born out of consumer demand for smartness, efficiency and sustainability. One of the NKBA’s future goals is to be a leader in sustainable, or green, design. As such, they are greatly expanding their educational programs in that area. This means that NKBA members are always aware of all the innovative green processes and products continuously coming out on the market.
So, again, what do you get when you select an NKBA member?
Abundant knowledge, experience and professional standards. Working with an NKBA professional means that the process of getting your new kitchen or bath is just as pleasant and rewarding as the final product (well, almost).
NKBA members are the finest professionals in the industry and can help to make your dream kitchen and bath a reality.
