Southampton Airport has become part of AGS Airports, a move welcomed by Hampshire Chamber.
AGS is an equal partnership between Ferrovial and Macquarie Infrastructure & Real Assets (MIRA), owning Southampton, Glasgow and Aberdeen Airports. A new chairman of AGS, Sir Peter Mason, has been appointed.
’That means more flights, more destinations and improved facilities, including a thorough look at the viability of an extended runway’
Heathrow Airport Holdings (HAH) agreed to sell the three airports earlier this year for £1.048 billion. The three gateways will continue to be managed locally to meet the needs of their local communities, with the added benefit of being supported by the joint ownership of Ferrovial and Macquarie.
Stewart Dunn, Hampshire Chamber chief executive, welcomed the acquisition and
said: “The new owners are highly experienced in airport investment and management. They are ideally placed to develop Southampton as a major airport for business and tourism.
“While we know it will be a case of continuing the already good, business-as-usual activities in the short term, we call on them to build more connections across Europe in the years ahead. That means more flights, more destinations and improved facilities, including a thorough look at the viability of an extended runway.“
Added Dave Lees, managing director, Southampton Airport: “We will still continue to operate independently as an airport under local management. It is very much business as usual. We welcome our new owners as we enter the next exciting phase of this award- winning airport.“
The airport is worth £100m per year to the local economy, with around 1.7 million passengers using it annually. It welcomed 140,000 passengers in November and December 2014 (an 11.7% rise on the previous year).
Translation companies reach an understanding
Romsey-based translation company Wessex Translations has confirmed its merger with INT-TRA Solutions of Whiteley.
The merger will enable the new company, Wessex Translations, to provide enhanced service levels to its clients who in turn can expect a seamless transition.
Melena Biwolé, managing director of INT-TRA Solutions, commented: “Wessex Translations has a similar service-driven philosophy to our own, so this is a really good fit.
“Moving forward our clients will benefit from almost half a century of experience in the industry. We will enjoy access to the latest industry software developments, translation memory, terminology management and an entire QA team.
“We will also be able to manage larger projects thanks to the additional resources. This is an exciting time for all of us.“
Wessex Translations has a strong reputation within the industry and currently holds the Institute of Translation & Interpreting’s accolade of ’Best Translation Company’. The company prides itself on offering a worldwide translation and interpreting service, in every known language and discipline.
“We are proud of the service levels we provide our clients,“ explained Robin Weber of Wessex Translations, “as indeed is INT-TRA. Our two businesses complement each other perfectly and we look forward to demonstrating this to our shared client base.“
