Navistar, one of the nation’s lead-
ing manufacturers of commercial trucks — as well as buses, defense vehicles and engines — recertifies its flagship, International brand trucks at the man- ufacturer level through its Diamond Renewed program, which was developed at its Used Equipment Reconditioning Center (UERC) in Indianapolis. The customer base for used trucks
is across the board, but the buyers all share the desire to get the best truck they can for the money.

supports its 15 used truck centers around the country as well as its dealer channels, meaning no matter where the work is performed, a Diamond Renewed truck has undergone the same, stan- dardized, reconditioning process. “We will certify our own trucks
that we sell through our used truck center,” said Michelle Wilson, Navistar dealer and marketing manager for the southwest region. “And Summit will go through the same process and recertify trucks in their possession.” Trucks are usually brought to

All trucks come with a Summit Certified packet that includes copies of the 180-point inspection, DOT inspection, itemization of the work per- formed and quality control documents on all work completed. “We’re looking at a lot of different
items on a truck,” Smith said. Likewise Navistar’s Diamond
Renewed plan includes a 180-point inspection, mechanical and aesthetic reconditioning, replacing diesel particu- late filters and diesel oxidization cata- lysts, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) calibration software updates, checking and repairing brake systems, major body repair and painting the frame rail. The recertification is performed for International’s ProStar, TranStar and LoneStar models made in 2010 or later and powered by MaxxForce EGR engines under 400,000 miles and up to 450 horsepower. “The main objective is to sell a
good, clean, dependable used truck when it leaves here,” Carney said.
WARRANTIES Summit Ultimate Warranties are
available for one year or 100,000 miles and cover powertrain, turbo charger, fuel deliver, emissions package and electronic control module. Custom war- ranties for specific packages are also available. Under its System 1 Confidence
warranty package, Navistar offers OEM factory-backed warranty cover- age for up to two years or 200,000 miles and includes EGR components.

The warranty also includes Navistar’s OnCommand Connection uptime monitoring system — a fleet man- agement software it offers with new trucks. The warranties provide the buy-
ers the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have a reliable vehicle, because even a used truck represents a major financial outlay. “They have confidence when they
purchase this truck it’s going to stay on the road and serve them well,” Wilson said.
“It’s insurance for them,” Carney said.
SELLING USED TRUCKS Summit, one of Navistar’s largest
