Suffolk Workforce Development Center to Host Job Corps
Information Session SUFFOLK, VA -- The Suffolk Workforce Development Center will host a Job Corps Information Session on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 9 a.m. The Suffolk Workforce Development Center is located at 157 North Main Street, Second Floor.
Suffolk and Franklin residents, age 16 to 24, are welcome to attend this free session which will cover a variety of professions including automotive technology, CNA/LPN, culinary, arts, electrician, health careers, landscaping, office administration, painting, pharmacy tech, plumbing, welding, security, and more. Attendees are requested to follow the following dress code:
Males – button or polo shirt, slacks, belts, shoes Females – dress, skirt, slacks, blouse, shoes
It is requested that all attendees not wear jeans, sneakers, or shorts.

Is Your Family Affected by Substance Use? Classes
Offered to Strengthen Families Are you or your family struggling with the effect of alcohol or substance use? Beginning in January, the Virginia Beach Human Services Department will offer two free classes to help family members learn more about how addiction affects them and how to strengthen family relationships.
The first class, Friends and Family Education Class, is for adults only and offers education about substance use, addiction and how family members and relationships are affected. Tips,
tools and community resource
information will help family members learn how to stay out of the emotional chaos of addiction. The class will begin Jan. 13 and will meet in Pembroke 3, Suite 120, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Tuesday evening through Feb. 17. The second class, Celebrating Families, is for families in which one or both parents have a serious problem with alcohol or other drugs. The evidence- based curriculum offers weekly instruction focused on developing healthy living skills. Celebrating Families!™works with every member of the family, from ages 3 through adult, to strengthen recovery from alcohol or other drugs, break the cycle of addiction and increase successful family reunification.
The class will meet every Tuesday for 16 weeks beginning Jan. 13 at Newtown Elementary School, 5277 Learning Circle, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The class is free and includes dinner and activities to promote healthy family relationships. If interested, please contact Sabrina Pugh at (757) 385-0827 or
