MINNESOTA CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION ELECTS GRISIM AS NEW PRESIDENT Tis past fall, members selected Doug
Grisim, owner of Lake City Bus Lines, as the association’s new president. Grisim is the son of Ken Grisim, who was also a school bus contractor until 1989 when he sold his business to Larry Benjamin. Te younger Grisim and wife Cara purchased an existing business from Raleigh and Marry Ann Tiedman, and the current it- eration of Lake City Bus Lines was born. It has 17 employees and a fleet of 18 buses. He told the MSBOA Operator newsletter that he looks to keep the association mov- ing forward by increasing the involvement of current members and recruitment. Gri- sim succeeds past-president Tom Hey. In other MSBOA news, members com-
piled a list of suggested best practices to prevent the spread of H1N1. Some of the ideas are: provide drivers with alcohol- based hand sanitizer; encourage and/or provide a flu shot clinic for all school bus drivers when available; educate and make drivers aware of how to stay healthy in the workplace and to be alert for H1N1 symp- toms; and conduct active screenings of employees who appear to be ill, then send sick employees home.
OSBA REMINDS DRIVERS NOT TO REDIRECT MOTORISTS TO PASS Te Ontario School Bus Association
said some school bus drivers, in an at- tempt to improve the flow of traffic, have been waving motorists to pass their school bus while the flashing overhead lights are activated. Te OSBA reminded its members that drivers are not to direct motorists to pass under any circumstanc- es. OSBA warned it is a potential safety hazard and also sends the wrong message to motorists. It encouraged drivers to un- derstand the severity of the issue and con- tinue to follow Ontario legislation.
