Mo., for the 15th National Congress on School Transportation, the Canadian Pupil Transportation Conference kicks off its national conference and trade show in Ottawa, Ontario. Held May 16-19, the event features workshops on driver train-


ing, child safety, illegal passers, operational service, distracted driving, and school bus crash testing and seat belt research as well as a trade show. Keynote speakers are sports broadcaster Brian Williams of CTV/


TSN, a mainstay during the network’s coverage of the recent 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, as well as Rex Murphy of the “Point of View” segments on Te National and a columnist for the National Post. More information is available online at www.cptc2010.ca.


CELEBRATING A 40TH BIRTHDAY In recognition of its 40th anniversary, the Kansas State Pupil


Transportation Association is offering one-time free registration to the 2010 Summer Symposium and School Bus Driver’s Safety Competition for competing drivers to the top five drivers in both the rookie and experienced class in each bus category at district competitions. Te deadline for free registration is May 25.


KSPTA and the Kansas State Department of Education are also


co-sponsoring the 25th year of the school bus driver instructor courses which are designed for school district, contractor and Head Start personnel. Te curriculum will provide both class- room and behind the wheel training sessions. Te instructor is Dick Fischer, who you can also find at the 2010 STN EXPO in Reno this summer. He’ll present an eight-hour pre-conference workshop on school bus mirror safety. Te training is broken down into three categories: New School


Bus Driver Instructor Course (June 21-25), School Bus Personnel Course (June 26) and Advanced School Bus Driver Instructor Course (June 28- July 2). Contact kspta@kans.com for more information.
