• Coffin Mew Solicitors has strengthened its practice with the appointment of ex-Magic Circle firm litigator James Russell, who joins as partner and head of dispute resolution. Russell is a commercial litigator with particular experience across all aspects of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, including cross-border proceedings. He is also a solicitor-advocate with rights to appear in all higher courts (civil). Russell joins from Wilsons where he was a partner, having previously worked as a director at leading litigation boutique Mark Humphries Legal.
• A University of Portsmouth astronomer, Dr Karen Masters, has won the Women of the Future science award on the same day she took part in the BBC’s 100 Women – a day of debate, discussion and live broadcasting on inspiring women around the world. A senior lecturer from the University’s Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation, Masters was among obstetricians, lawyers, designers and entrepreneurs at the recent Women of the Future awards ceremony which recognises the country’s most inspirational women. Masters won the award for her research into understanding how galaxies form and evolve in our universe. The Women of the Future Awards, founded nine years ago by entrepreneur Pinky Lilani OBE, identify female role models under the age of 35 who are rising stars in the business, public and creative worlds.
• Law firm Blake Morgan has promoted 23 solicitors in its Southampton and Portsmouth offices, a number of whom are pictured above. The promotions, from 58 announced nationwide by the firm, highlight the strengthening of the firm’s teams following the merger of Blake Lapthorn and Morgan Cole earlier this year. A total of 20 promotions are for staff at Blake Morgan’s Southampton office at New Kings Court. In the corporate team, Gemma Spiceley and Mat Wilson both receive promotions to associate. In the banking and finance team, Steve Cole is promoted to senior associate, while Natalie Coates becomes an associate. In commercial litigation, Jessica Tresham and Kate New are promoted to senior associate, while Ben Evans becomes a senior solicitor. There are several promotions for members of the development and agriculture team, where Marina Wickens becomes legal director, Lara Borrett-Lynch becomes a senior associate and Chris Carr and Charlotte Wilson become senior solicitors. In the employment team, Graham Brown and Clare Preston become senior solicitors. Claire Anderson in the professional regulatory team and Ronan Daffey in real estate are both promoted to associate. In real estate, Nicola Sutton, Anna Larbi and Daniel Curtis are promoted to senior associate while Matthew Napoli becomes a senior solicitor. In the construction team, Edward McMullen becomes a senior associate. In Blake Morgan’s Portsmouth office there are promotions for commercial recoveries solicitors Teresa Hardingham and Katy Miles and wills and tax solicitor Celine Lecomte, who all become associates.
• Mike Tamlyn, award-winning creative director, has joined the expanding team at Winchester-based, national marketing communications agency Remarkable Group, to lead creativity within its content-focused division, Remarkable Content. With numerous industry awards under his belt, across a host of media channels, and close to 20 years’ experience, Tamlyn will oversee all online and offline creative campaigns incorporating, among other activities, digital and social media marketing; corporate branding; graphic and web design; and creative strategy.

• Enterprise M3, the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for the M3 corridor, has appointed five new directors to its business-led board. The new board members bring a wealth of commercial expertise to the LEP and will be instrumental in ensuring Enterprise M3 delivers its strategic objective – driving economic success across Hampshire and Surrey. The new appointees are Dr Mike Short CBE, vice president, Telefonica; David Barnes OBE, chief executive, Farnborough Aerospace Consortium; Dave Axam, South East regional director, BT; James Cretney, chief executive, Marwell Wildlife and Andrew Lambert, managing director, Electronic Media Services. These five new private-sector board members join the LEP at a crucial time as it pushes ahead with delivery of its £118 million growth deal. They will be instrumental in driving delivery on key initiatives and championing mechanisms to deliver success across Hampshire and Surrey, as well as helping to determine longer-term priorities for investment to support economic growth in this important area.
• In its South Central region, CBRE has promoted Nick Tutton (above) to director in the agency team; Dan Dempsey to associate director in specialist markets; and Liam Small to senior surveyor in lease consultancy. Tutton has over 14 years’ experience handling industrial and office agency letting, acquisitions and disposals across the south coast for both investors and occupiers. Dempsey focuses on the licensed and leisure sector and has expanded his remit to cover specialist markets both regionally and nationally. Small provides advice and representation to corporate occupiers and landlords.
