Celebrate the arrival of a new member of the family with a special Naming Ceremony

General information

• The perfect way to celebrate the arrival of your child in a very special, non-religious way.

• A unique celebratory ceremony with no legal standing, it provides an ideal framework for all your family and friends to come together and acknowledge the birth of your baby.

• Close friends and relatives who you would like to have an influential role in your child’s life can also participate in the ceremony, as well as grandparents, older siblings and other important people.

How do I arrange a Naming Ceremony?

Ceremonies can take place either at Telford and Wrekin Register Office from Monday to Saturday or at any other approved venue, any day of the week.

For a ceremony at the Register Office, please contact the Superintendent Registrar to check availability. For a ceremony at one of our approved venues, you should make a provisional booking with the venue in the first instance and then contact the Superintendent Registrar to ensure that a Celebrant will be able to attend.

What happens during the Naming Ceremony?

Once you have decided to go ahead with a Naming Ceremony, you will be given an

Small Steps 2

information pack to help you create your own unique ceremony, from the introduction and welcome, through the promises you and other important people would like to make to your child, to the signing of the commemorative certificate which is presented at the end of the ceremony.

You can enhance the ceremony by including your own words and have readings and music, although these must be of a non- religious nature.

On average, ceremonies take about 20-30 minutes. Every ceremony is unique and created to meet your specific needs. Generally these ceremonies are not overlong as there are usually a number of small

children attending.
