Princess opens castle’s new gatehouse display

LEEDS Castle Foundation cele- brated its 40th anniversary as a charitable foundation with a Royal visit from Patron HRH Princess Alexandra. The Princess officially opened The Gatehouse introductory exhibition, viewed the new exhibition centre display rooms, met long-serving staff and attended an education workshop with students from the Leeds and Broomfield Village Pri- mary School. Castle, Lady Baillie, made the castle her lifelong love and she ensured that after her death in 1974 it should be enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. During the past 40 years, Leeds

Castle has become one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain and plays hosts to events and func- tions throughout the year. The Gatehouse exhibition details

Road closure

OAKWOOD Road in Maidstone will be closed for up to three days so that cranes can lift cabins out of St Augustine Abbey. Work will start on November 25, and the al- ternative route will be via the A26 Tonbridge Road and Bower Mount Road.
