Research on Communicated Threats
Jescelle Tiongco, M.A. PsyD Candidate at Alliant International University is currently doing her dissertation on a new scale to measure communicated threats.

"The purpose of the research is to develop a rating scale using the threat analysis model. More methods need to exist when considering the measurement of the relative level of concern related to a communicated threat so that the appropriate responses could be made. For this particular study,
communicated threats are defined as emailed communication, handwritten letters, and typed letters. Participants will be asked to read two threat letters and complete the rating scale and the WAVR-21. Workplace Assessment of Violence Risk (WAVR-21) for each letter."

Overall, 753 workers were killed as a result of violence and other injuries by persons or animals, including 397 homicides and 270 suicides.
The work-related suicide total for 2013 was 8 percent higher than the 2012 total.
The homicide total was lower in 2013, falling 16 percent to 397 from 475 in 2012. Shootings were the most frequent manner of death in both homicides (80 percent) and suicides (47 percent). Of the 302 fatal work injuries
