This Hawaiian rowing boat is under construction at John Williams Inc. Continued from Page 14.

38 foot lobster boat; a two 34 foot sportfi sh- ermen. These are all being fi nished off using the Calvin Beal moulds. A Young Brothers 45 is being fi nished out as a sport fi shing boat and will be powered with a 1150 hp Caterpillar.

Joe Sargent in Milbridge has leased

Jim Beal’s boat shop in the center of town. The deal also includes the South Shore 38 and the Beal 33 moulds.

Joe is presently laying up a South Shore 38, which will be fi nished off as a sport fi sh- ing boat for a customer from the Rockland area. She will be powered with 820 hp FPT engine and will be done late this spring. Next they will stretch the 38 to a 41,

which will be fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi shermen from Stonington. They have several other people talking

seriously about boats this winter. One wants to stretch the 38 to a 43 x 16 and use her as a lobster boat off Matinicus. Also, there is interest from another party in a 33 foot lobster boat.

Jim Beal will also be laying up at least one hull this winter. He has already sold his present lobster boat and will be building a new one for himself next season. This will be a 33.

Jonesport Shipyard in Jonesport is right in the middle of their hauling season like everybody else on the coast. They have three commercial boats hauled up in the yard. One is LADY LIL which needs repairs to her keel. Another is NOAH’S ARK, which also needs keel work. LADY ANNETTE is in for propeller

and stuffi ng box repairs. This will be a quick fi x and she will be back in the water soon.

70s MEMORIES - N. Moody Continued from Page 5.

my offi ce, fl ash that warm, so-mem- orable smile, and we’d have a chat. “Do you think it’s really all worth it, Lee?” We’d spend an hour or so commiserating while being con- stantly interrupted with phone calls and crew poking heads through the door with questions. Before Nick would leave we’d both be laughing. Short “break” having done both of us a world of good.

I said to Nick if he would, just drop the J-sailboat in an out of the way place in the upper storage yard and asked how much I owed him. He laughed. “This one’s on me,” He says, “We’ve done a lot of busi- ness together and besides, I’ve got to keep your tail out of hot water on this one. No telling what “the boss” up the hall is gonna say to you come the end of the day.”........ Nick, we’re all going to miss you my friend.
