6 Maidstone Borough Council Town centre water main upgrade
After a series of burst water mains in Maidstone town centre South East Water is planning a £155,000 programme of work to upgrade the pipelines in Week Street and Earl Street.
The work is planned to start in January 2015 following the busy Christmas shopping period and is currently expected to take about four months to complete.
Chris Love, Delivery Manager at South East Water, said: “It is unacceptable to us that businesses and residents go without water for short periods when bursts occur. By upgrading these pipelines our customers will receive an uninterrupted supply of highly treated water, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“All businesses in Week Street and Earl Street will remain open as normal while we’re undertaking the work and we’re working hard to ensure that there will be as little disruption as possible while the work is carried out.
“We will be finalising our plans over the next couple of months and will provide further information as it becomes available.”

Maidstone council’s new commercial waste service has signed up its 200th customer. Janine and Paul Cox say their business would not be financially viable without Maidstone Borough Commercial Waste Solutions, other companies were too expensive!
The council service offers waste and recycling solutions across the borough tailored to business needs, regardless of size or industry. The service includes free bin loan, free paper and card recycling collections and a free waste survey.
Prices start from as little as £1.80 a sack. All paper and card is recycled locally and all waste is incinerated to generate electricity.
