New MMTA chairman Howard Levine,


vice president and co-founder of Ramar Moving Systems, has some good ideas for this coming year, including continued membership growth, an emphasis on public relations, and a push toward young execu- tive involvement. But Levine doesn’t want to create a laun-


dry list of his own goals. Instead, he wants to hear other MMTA leaders share their own good ideas. As he explained, “It takes a team to make it work, and our board of directors is a very dedicated team.” Levine said he wants to examine what


past chairmen have accomplished, and what they were working on when their terms ended. Maybe he can finish some of

what they started. He’d like to continue growing the membership, as was achieved greatly this past year when membership increased more than nine percent during the term of past chairman Neil Middleton. Levine also wants to pursue a public educa- tion effort like supporting the American Trucking Associations’ Trucking Moves America Forward campaign. He said the public typically assumes an accident involv- ing a motor carrier was caused by the truck driver, when often that’s not the case. Levine also would like to start a small


group of young executives to develop the next generation of MMTA leaders. “A lot of us in the trucking association


have sons, daughters, or someone we want to eventually turn our companies over to. I think we need to get youth involved to give a new perspective of where we’re going,” he
