Data is playing an increasingly important role in graduate recruitment as access to ever more granular information becomes easier. We take a look at two recent global surveys and share the key findings…


Global Assessment and Selection Title: Global GradRec Survey Organisation: Saville Consulting Survey size: Data from over 60 countries Brief overview of data: Combining data from over 60 countries, Saville Consulting’s Global GradRec survey highlights the key challenges facing student recruitment professionals around the globe.


Key findings: Types of assessment: • Tests of intellectual agility are the mostly widely used graduate assessment with 73.3% of graduate recruiters using aptitude assessments.


• Behavioural assessments have traditionally been used for shortlisting but are now increasingly being used to make decisions at the screening stage. Saville Consulting has worked with a range of Russian and French manufacturing companies who are using behavioural assessment to not only screen candidates but also stream them into suitable graduate roles.


• Within Europe and China there is an increasing trend to ensure that student assessments are engaging and provide realistic job preview with 20% of companies using situational judgement tests.


Logistics, languages and security concerns: • As assessments become more globalised and student volumes increase, it is important to consider the implications of implementing certain assessment methods. Some countries may not have ample access to electricity or an internet connection.

online assessments were conducted in supervised testing centres to ensure that everyone has access to the assessments. Generators were kept on standby during the sessions as a provision for power cuts.


• Deception and security of assessment methods are considerations in all countries; whilst Western recruiters tend to administer assessments in unprotected settings, countries within Africa and Asia administer assessments in a protected setting. Companies in India visit colleges to administer supervised online cognitive assessments to potential candidates where they are studying.


Drivers of performance: This survey, combined with information from HR leaders across a dozen separate countries including the UK, Spain, Argentina, India, Indonesia, Japan and Mexico, has indicated that there are a clear set of attributes that are deemed as key indicators for potential. • Graduates are required to be intellectually agile in order to deal with the demands of the role and to learn the required skills.


• The ability to seize opportunities and make things happen while interacting and directing others is important for future potential in graduates, reiterating Saville Consulting’s extensive validation research.


• Additionally, global graduate recruiters are looking for candidates who are resilient and are able to cope with change and new environments; something that 29% of graduate recruiters feel are missing with graduates and apprentices.

Global Salary Trends Title: Global Employer Survey Organisation: QS Survey size: Data from nearly 29,000 employers across 24 main industries in 134 countries. Overview: The QS Global Employer Survey has been running for the past ten years. Ms. Susan Gatuguta Gitau, Analyst & Project Manager; and Dr. Christina Yan Zhang, China Director provides an overview of key global salary trends.


Key findings: Global averages: The value of basic compensation offered by employers in Eastern Europe and Latin America falls below $20,000 (USD) per annum. This outcome is mirrored by the findings from the Global Cost of Talent Index from Universum. Students from some countries within these respective regions displayed low salary expectations. The Asia Pacific, Western Europe and US & Canada compensation is valued above the global average while Africa & Middle East falls 5% below the global average.
