New boat and car on cards for loery pair

A MAIDSTONE couple are cele- brating after winning £1m in the EuroMillions raffle. Wayne and Desirée Home bought their winning ticket from Barming Post Office. After a chal- lenging six years, the East Farleigh couple, both 57, are now looking forward to a brighter future. Wayne, an IT project manager in financial services, discovered the win, but the self-confessed pes- simist didn’t share the news with Desirée, who is recovering from bowel cancer, until he was sure. He said: “Initially I decided to

tell her it was half-a-million so she wouldn’t go completely crazy. Suf- fice to say, she was screaming and yelling down the phone with some colourful language as she tried to take on board what had happened. When I called back a bit later to say that it was actually a million, the screaming just got louder!” Married for 34 years, the couple

enjoyed a happy and financially se- cure family life until 2008, when Desiréewas diagnosed with bowel

mend, the couple both lost their jobs and, facing financial ruin, had to sell the family home. Now with their heads well and

truly above water, Wayne said: “We have come through the hard times and this win signals an excit- ing future for our entire family. Family is everything to us and we

News More PCSOs

FIFTEEN new police community support officers (PCSOs) have been welcomed into the force by the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner, Ann Barnes, and the county’s Deputy Chief Constable, Paul Bran- don. Apassing-out parade at Kent Po-

liceHQin Sutton Road, Maidstone, marked the successful completion of the officers’ initial training. The PCSOs will serve communi-

ties across Kent, including manning the mobile police stations, which were one of the commissioner’s manifesto promises to boost visible community policing.

Home refused ANoutline planning application for a detached three-bedroom home in Marden Road, Staplehurst was re- fused for being contrary to policy. Royston Keep wanted to build

the home at his garden in Bramleys but Maidstone Council’s planning committee felt it was in an unsus- tainable location in the open coun- tryside. Cllr Ian Chittenden, a member of

the committee, thought differently. He said: “There are houses on the left of it, houses to the right of it and houses to the front of it. I can’t see any harm this is going to bring, ex- cept that it is against our policy.”
