The winter was harsh and it took plenty of fuel to keep SATURN warm. In two months she burned through $2,500. Not much work could be done as the temperatures dipped to zero most of the nights in January and February. Then came the big surprise, the water in the bilge was getting higher. We knew the problem was in the foc's'le, but there was ice beneath the deck, which blocked us from getting to the area we thought the leak was in. When the ice was gone the leak was located, but it is obvious that SATURN needs to come out and have a plate replaced on her strarboard. A visit to the shipyard will cost between $10,000 and $15,000. Please help save SATURN.
SATURN is an 117-foot railroad tug built as the BERN for the Reading Railroad in 1907. She is one of the last railroad tugs and is being saved for future generations to enjoy.
