in the sheer clamp. He also has to build the stern quarter pieces, which he needs to make fi rst as everything mortises into them. Also in the shop is SUSAN MARIE, a 37 foot Repco, which is 42 years old. He has put in a varnished cedar ceiling and added trim. She will be overboard in June and ready to charter.

Outside is a 1975 36 foot Beals Island built lobster boat, KRISTINA-KATIE, which sank during the winter. Unfortunately when she was salvaged they pulled her up by her house, which came apart. The hull is in very good shape and would not need very much work to be put back in working order. For those interested call Buxton Boats.
Light Fiberglass in Corea has been very busy with both new construction and repair work. A Calvin 44, LOST GENERATION,
was fi nished off as a dragger to replace the one lost, FOXY LADY. They added four inches to the sheer, and down below she has four bunks, galley (refrigerator/freezer, stove with oven and sink), enclosed head with shower, and a hydraulic room. Up in the cabin there is an air ride captain’s chair and dinette. She also has a genset, an 80 gallon freshwater tank, and 1,000 gallons of fuel in two tanks. This project took fi ve months to complete.
Another Calvin 44 is being fi nished off as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Cutler. Down below she has just a V-berth. She is powered with a 750 hp John Deere diesel. She also has a winter back, storage tanks under the deck, and a 14 inch hauler. This boat will be fi nished the end of June. In the yard they have an Osmond 37

in for repairs. They also have a 37 Repco, which needs washboards.
Another Calvin 44 hull will be arriving
in October. She will be fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Milbridge. Then in March another Calvin 44 hull will arrive to be fi nished out as a lobster boat for a fi sherman from Massachusetts. There is also a possibility of fi nishing off a Wesmac 46 this fall.

Kennedy Marine Engineering in Steuben has been extremely busy over the winter with a number of repowers and en- gine work. They did 17 engine installations, most opted for Cummins QSBs or FPT Iveco engines and seven went into new boats. Presently they have a Wayne Beal 36
in the shop. They are replacing her 300-hp Caterpillar with an FPT 6.7. She would cruise 13 knots with her old engine and it is expected that she will be able to cruise at 20
knots with her new one. One of their interesting projects this
winter was fi nishing a Northern Bay 28 as a sportfi sherman, which they powered with a FPT 6.7 570-hp diesel engine. Down below she has a V-berth, head, and an inverter. She will make her racing debut at Boothbay Harbor.
Owner Roger Kennedy said that this has been the busiest year in business and still has more boats lined up waiting for work.
H. & H. Marine in Steuben has been busy over the winter. James Rich Boatyard in West Tremont just launched an Osmond 36, which is the fi rst wide one, named BLACK VELVET. She has a 15 foot beam, which previously was 13 feet 3 inches. She is powered with a 420-hp Iveco diesel engine, with a 2½:1 gear, and a 26 x 28 four blade propeller. She topped out at 23 knots and cruised at 17. In the mould shop, an Osmond 42 wide (17 feet 6 inch beam) has just come out of the mould. They are presently laying up another Osmond 42. This will be followed by an Osmond 47, which they have three to do. This will be followed by an Osmond 40. Kit boats that have gone out recently include a 29, 36, and 34. An Osmond 40 has been fi nished out as a crab boat for a customer from California. She is powered with a Cummins diesel. An Osmond 36 has been fi nished out
as a sport fi shing boat, for a customer from New Hampshire.
An Osmond 42 has been stretched to 46 for a customer from Fisher’s Island. Down below she has a V-berth, head and bench seating. She was shipped out in February. It is not just new boats that are keep-
ing them busy, but they also have a lot of repair work. They just fi nished up work on a BHM 39. They added a split wheelhouse, lobster tanks below deck, new hatches, a larger exhaust system, replaced shaft and bearings, re-gelcoated the pilot house, and did cosmetic work. A 40 foot Wayne Beal also had a split wheelhouse added. They plumbed the fi sh hold and did cosmetic work to both the top and bottom. A 42 foot Bruno Stillman came in for a new top and washrails. These were replaced due to a core problem. A Repco 37 came in and was extended 5 feet and widened 40 inches. They added a new engine and shaft, put on a new house, fi sh holds and new hydraulics. They said that they did manage to save the bunks. An Osmond 40 came in and was gut- ted, saving only the washboards and cuddy. They moved the bulkhead forward and then fi nished her out.
