A celebration of young talent

It's summer and we're in the grips of Wimbledon Tennis, the FIFA World Cup, the Commonwealth Games and music festivals everywhere. Unsurprisingly, many of the star attractions are young and are some of the wealthiest people in Britain. In fact, the 2014 Sunday Times Rich List records 50 people who are under 30 and seven of those are among Britain's 1,000 richest people.

Celebrities like Harry Styles of ‘One Direction’, Calvin Harris and Cheryl Cole are worth millions each, as are Wayne Rooney and Andy Murray.

Then there are the Tech Entrepreneurs like Pete Cashmore of the blog ‘Mashable’, who is 28 and believed to be worth over £100 million. He started his business from his parents’ home in Aberdeenshire.

It would be easy to dismiss these people as talented individuals who had the luck to get where they are, but any successful person knows

that there is always a great deal of dedication and hard work required to make it – and stay – at the top.

Successful young business entrepreneurs are passionate about their work, as we’ve seen from listening to candidates for the Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition. They are the future employers and contributors to UK economic growth, so they deserve our admiration and it’s great to be able to celebrate youth as a positive, driving force for good.

To support our young business entrepreneurs the 2014 Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition has launched and if you – or someone you know – are thinking of entering, you might be interested in the mentoring that’s offered with a partner from Haines Watts as part of the prize.

The competition website (www. hwye.co.uk) has ‘tips and tricks’ and a blog – and there are also social

networking sites to communicate with like-minded people.

To enter this year’s competition, which is free, go online at www.hwye.co.uk and submit a good business case as to why you should win. Finalists also receive cash prizes and PR.

Competition applicants should be running a business in the Thames Valley, defined as Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire, and must have been trading for over a year.

The competition is open to anyone

who is under 36 years old on July 31, 2014 and there is no lower age limit.

Hurry, the closing date is fast approaching.
