• Emily Taylor first entered the doors of Eric Robinson Solicitors 15 years ago to get work experience. Now, aged 31, she has become one of the firm’s youngest-ever partners. After completing a law degree at the University of Southampton and LPC at Guildford Law School, Taylor began work at Eric Robinson as a paralegal in civil litigation and conveyancing. A year later, she embarked on a two-year training contract with the firm, where she stayed after qualifying and was taken under the wing of then senior partner and head of wills, trust and succession Graham Payne.
• Ringwood-based Raymond Brown Group has thrown a celebration to honour its chairman Ron Isaac (left) as he reached his 50th year of continuous service to the company. Isaac was employed by Raymond Brown as a trainee plant operator in 1964 and went on to operate a number of machines for 11 years. In 1975 he became contracts director; in 1982 he succeeded Raymond Brown as managing director; and in 1995 he took over as chairman. Kelvin White (right), group chief executive, said: “Thank you for your huge contribution in moulding the business over the past 50 years and for instilling the values that set us apart. It is an honour working for you.“
• Southern Communications has appointed Mathew Kirk as commercial director and shareholder of the business. Kirk has been the corporate development director of TalkTalk Telecom Group plc since 2009 and prior to that was mergers and acquisitions director for The Carphone Warehouse Group from 2004. At TalkTalk he was involved with the demerger from Carphone, led the acquisitions of OneTel, Tele2, AOL and Tiscali as well as over 20 transactions on behalf of the B2B division. Over the past three years, Kirk has been a board member of TalkTalk Business, a £425 million revenue division of TalkTalk, a member of the Group’s innovation committee and has led a number of key outsourcing projects.
• Dave Lees, managing director of Southampton Airport, has been elected to the board of the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). He was chosen by a vote of the LEP’s business members after responding to a call for Solent business leaders working in aerospace, aviation, high-end manufacturing, logistics, ports and key international gateways. He has developed the airport’s masterplan, which predicts how the transport hub will develop in the years to 2030. Lees fills the board seat vacated by former Southampton port director Doug Morrison.
• Telecommunications firm VoIP Unlimited has strengthened its team with the appointment of three new recruits. Kevin Knaggs (right) and Adam Bialy (left) join the Poole-based company’s support team as line support technician and systems administrator respectively. With more than eight years’ IT experience, Knaggs will be responsible for liaising with the firm’s independent IT dealer network. Bialy’s main responsibilities include the management, planning and ongoing maintenance of VoIP Unlimited’s systems. Lorraine Meeks (centre) has been appointed as company accountant and heads the accounts team.
• Linden Homes has appointed a strong new team of three to help run its Totton-based southern arm. The new triumvirate consists of managing director Brendon O’Neill, commercial director Jeff Hake and technical director Lance Else. O’Neill joins from the capital where he was managing director of Barratt Homes North London. Hake joins to take on responsibility for surveying, estimating and procurement, and brings a great deal of expertise. Technical director Else joins from Crest Nicholson where he was technical executive.

• A University of Portsmouth final-year student has been singled out as one of the select few with potential to be a world-class entrepreneur. Andrew Martin, 23, is one of just 30 students from across the UK chosen to take part in a year-long programme by the New Entrepreneurs Foundation. Martin is in the final year of a games technology degree course and is concentrating on his final exams. But come autumn, he will start drawing a salary while working alongside skilled coaches in some of the country’s top companies.
• Full-service marketing and PR agency McKenna Townsend has appointed Mel Bradley as a senior account manager to provide PR and marketing services across the agency’s consumer, business-to- business and corporate clients. With over six years’ experience gained in London-based PR agencies, Bradley has worked on a number of blue-chip and global companies including Peugeot, Thorpe Park, Cirque du Soleil and Sony Ericsson.
