Judging begins for IoD London and the South Director of the Year Awards

With the deadline for entries having passed, the judges are about to start the task of choosing the winners in the 2013 London and South East Director of the Year awards

The awards, run by the Institute of Directors (IoD) and open to members and non-members, are sponsored by PwC and bring together company directors from a variety of backgrounds, recognising their qualities as business leaders.

This year’s competition has attracted the highest-ever number of nominations, leading to the introduction of additional categories.

The winners’ achievements will be celebrated at a Gala Awards Dinner in London in June.

’Many previous entrants ... have

commented that just the process of entering proved hugely beneficial to their businesses’

Between now and then the judging panel, made up of representatives of business leaders and former winners of the awards, will be reviewing the entries and drawing up a shortlist of finalists.

Rodger Broad, director of the IoD South, said: “Many previous entrants to the Director of the Year Awards have commented that just the process of entering proved hugely beneficial to their businesses.

“Our judging panel is made up of experienced, leading lights in the business world. Having them review your operations and plans can help you take a step back and look at your work in a fresh light.“

Former award winners among the judges this year are Peter Digby of Xtrac of Thatcham, Berkshire, who last year won Director of the Year of a Global Company and went on to be named the UK’s Director of the Year; and Dr Rami Ranger of Sun Mark, of Greenford, who won Director of the Year, Large Company 2012.

The panel is completed by Chris Dodson OBE, chairman of the Torftech Group and former chairman of the IoD South; Jason Choy, chief executive of Welcome Gate Commercial Security Systems and chairman of the Central London branch of the IoD; Chris Maw, partner, PwC South East; Dan Richards, commercial director, Trinity Mirror; Frank Banks, managing partner, Alba Associates; John Minards, South East regional leader, PwC; Lewis Scott, regional director for South East England at UK Trade & Investment; Penny Lovell, head of private client services, Close Brothers Management; and Sean Duffy, commercial director, First Scotrail.
