to produce or maintain such tools on a CNC tool grinding machine – due to their size and complexity. Another disadvantage of this approach is that it requires the manufacturer to define the complete assembly as a rotary tool in the CNC program, demanding time-consuming and expensive programming. Working in partnership with

a number of leading machine tool manufacturers and tool sharpening companies, NUM has further developed NUMROTO’s form cutter function to simplify insert grinding significantly. Users can now define a form cutter as

a rotary tool or as a standalone profile insert. Holders with soldered or cemented inserts can still be defined as rotary tools, and the position of each insert can be probed individually, allowing any mounting inaccuracies to be detected and compensated for automatically during the grinding process. Many of the latest cutting tools employ user- replaceable profile inserts, which are ground as physically separate blades on a CNC grinding machine. Instead of being fixed to a holder during grinding, the insert is held in a production clamping system that has an optimised geometry

World first

At the recent Tube & Wire in Düsseldorf/Germany, Aicon presented the new generation in tube measurement - TubeInspect P, a milestone in 20-year-old system history! The new TubeInspect P-series is part of the continuing development of TubeInspect technology, and sets new standards in tube measurement. The system is equipped with the latest camera and LED

illumination technology, as well as a highly precise and long-term stable glass reference. TubeInspect P8 is the first

model in the series. It’s equipped with 8 high resolution cameras and is suitable for tubes and wires from 1 - 125mm diameter. The system measures with accuracies of up to 0.035mm. The measurement area of 1.000 x 600 x 400mm covers 3D measurements of objects of up

to 1m in length. However, even longer tubes and wires can be measured without problems. The lateral doors allow for an overlapping repositioning section by section, thus making it possible to measure components with an end-to-end- length of up to 2m. TubeInspect P8 fulfills the

highest requirements regarding accuracy and measurement speed. Combined with the software platform BendingStudio, the system offers various application-oriented functionalities. TubeInspect P8 fits onto a regular Euro- pallet. That saves transport costs significantly and reduces the space needed for application. Due to its compact size and various convenient functions, TubeInspect P8 can easily be transported to different sites for measuring.

for efficient grinding, with unobstructed working space for the grinding wheel. Their new profile insert function

simplifies the programming of the new types of ultra high efficiency CNC tool grinding machines that are now coming into service. After selecting the profile insert form cutter, users are presented with an easy-to-understand menu that enables them to specify whether the part to be ground is held in a fixed or adjustable collet, or by clamping plates. The software supports different mounting plate arrangements to allow the insert to be oriented in

any of three planes and provides a simple means of specifying parameters such as transverse and longitudinal offset values. NUMROTO also now supports 3-D models for the production clamping system, which enables it to be visualised during 3-D simulation and monitored for collisions with the grinding wheel; the insert itself is displayed as a cube-shaped blank.

New roll tooling laser marking station

As a part of its latest round of new equipment investment, Roll-Kraft has added the Vestige 50-watt Custom Mobile Laser Marking System which is manufactured by Monode Marking Products, Inc. The new laser marking system is a full 50-watt system capable of marking 12” tall x 15” diameter roll tooling with a .010 to .030 marking depth. “The addition of this piece of equipment greatly enhances the clarity of roll identification marking on all roll tooling manufactured by Roll-Kraft,” said Roll-Kraft president Chuck Gehrisch. “This is another example of our continued commitment to investment in new equipment and further strengthens our position as the leading tooling supplier to the tube & pipe and roll forming industries.” In addition to the new laser

marking station, they have also recently added a new Automatic Universal Cylindrical Grinder, as well as two new Accutex AX-1165 EDM machines, to its facilities in Mentor, Ohio and Woodbridge, Ontario.
