St Mary’s: Southampton’s corporate destination

Businesses from across the south are discovering Southampton’s corporate destination – St Mary’s Stadium

Thanks to Halo, the conferencing and events company of Southampton Football Club, St Mary’s has become a ’Destination Beyond Football’.

The diverse range of suites and executive boxes available means that Halo can offer bespoke solutions for businesses, tailored to a company’s specific requirements.

As an example, The Business Magazine hosts the Solent Deals Awards at St Mary’s each year. This event, attracting 250 people, is a dinner staged in the Mike Channon Suite, and has become the key date in the region’s corporate finance calendar.

By contrast, the venue can host management meetings and off-site directors’ boardroom lunches for between 10 and 50 people – or sales conferences and product launches for up to 500 delegates.

“We are a very versatile venue,“ explained Erik Ammer, director of catering, events and hospitality. “The Halo brand is becoming more and more recognised as providing a Destination Beyond Football. Our remit is to be very

Golf complex takes course of investment

Dorset’s largest golf complex, the Canford Magna Golf Club and Academy, is on course for further investment this year having spent

over £250,000 during the past three years to enhance the three courses and club facilities, including a major refurbishment of the

restaurant enjoyed by visitors and the 1,000 strong membership.

Stuart Hudson, managing director who manages the 45-hole, 350-acre complex near Wimborne, says that with a steady membership, who enjoy playing all year round thanks to the choice of courses, and the popular weekend Canford Kids Academy, the club is in a fortunate position to continue to re-invest up to £100,000.

“No one can deny that both the economic and environmental climate has severely damaged the expansion of golfing in the UK. We have weathered the storm well, or should I say storms, and are now budgeting to purchase extra machinery, including the latest top dresser, to help keep our greens in great condition. We won’t let our high standards slip.“

He says that there is much focus on keeping a friendly feel to the club: “We have over 50 staff, there cannot be many clubs that have five pros, five chefs as well as 12 green- keeping staff. I feel investment is the only way forward.“

business focused and to create a venue that local companies will consider for non-football activities tailored to their business needs.“

Ammer joined Halo from Red Bull Racing, the championship-winning Formula One team, and he has brought that desire to be the very best to St Mary’s. He said: “We are a corporate destination where we combine attention to detail and dexterity to ensure that, not only can we provide a solution to fit all budgets, but that our clients leave here feeling that their event has been a tremendous success.

“With our dedicated team, the delivery of your conference or event could not be easier.“

Halo also caters for major events, with up to 2,000 delegates, at Southampton’s cruise terminals. In partnership with Associated British Ports, Halo can provide a key destination for a major corporate party, launch event or conference.

“Business exhibitions can also be staged at both St Mary’s and the cruise terminals. We have a host of function rooms at the stadium which can mean that a full programme of presentations and breakout sessions can be held,“ Ammer added.
