Why last-minute lingerie shopping need not always be pants

A fading bunch of last minute chrysanthemums was once the best a girl could hope for from a late night dash to the local garage. But last year one eleventh

hour Romeo made headlines, and hopefully his lucky lady’s day, when he picked up a parcel of lingerie from Collect+ at the Esso service station in Hanworth Middlesex

at 10.43pm on

Christmas Eve. To be fair to our anonymous

shopper, this was hardly an aſterthought. He was one of the growing millions embracing click-and-collect. A recent report by Econsultancy revealed that 45% of online shoppers in the UK used it over the Festive period in 2013. British shoppers were

expected to spend an average of 142 minutes each waiting at home for deliveries to arrive last Christmas, costing the UK economy £868 million, according to an independent study released by Collect+. The parcel delivery and

returns company, whose operations and service director Mark Lawrence will be speaking at next month’s Multimodal 2014

Best Practice Seminars, has over 5,500 outlets enabling customers to pick up items from big brands at a time that suits them, seven days a week. Collect+ recently opened a hub

complete with changing rooms, the first of its type in the UK, in London’s Westfield Shopping Centre, which will allow customers to click-and-collect, and try on, over 260 brands. According to research

for mobile operator O2 by Conlumino, more than a third of shoppers regularly use click-and- collect services, and that use is expected to rise by 12% this year. Click-and-Collect is not just

for fashion. In January Tesco, Waitrose and InPost signed a deal with Transport for London which will enable customers to pick up groceries and post from Underground stations. A slick returns service is vital

to successful on-line retailing, and the Multimodal panel will be discussing some of the innovative options on offer. ByBox, whose CEO and co-

founder Stuart Millar will be speaking, has recently been appointed by Shop Direct Group,

ByBox CEO Stuart Miller

the UK multi-brand digital retailer to offer a returns service across a number of brands. ByBox offers 24/7, free-of-charge locker services to online shoppers, to receive and return parcels at sites such as local supermarkets, shopping centres, high streets, and petrol stations. The Shop Direct Deal will see

customers book a return, print out a label, and take the item to their local ByBox locker for collection.

CILT chief executive Steve Agg

Visitors to Multimodal will be

able to hear about the scheme and other advances at the Multimodal Click-and-Collect and Returns Panel on the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Seminar day on April 29th at the Birmingham NEC. Chaired by CILT chief Steve Agg,

executive the

panel will include Carl Moore, operations director, Clipper Logistics, as well as Stuart Miller, CEO ByBox, and Mark Lawrence, operations and service director, Collect+. Other seminars over the

three-day, free-to-attend show will tackle Humanitarian Logistics, Financing the Supply Chain, Modal Shiſt, Portcentric Solutions, and Correct Packing and Accurate Weighing of Containers. Multimodal has once more

teamed up with the CILT and the Freight Transport Association (FTA) to organise a series of debates and masterclasses which aim to help companies run slicker supply chains, drive efficiencies, and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and regulations. The Loadstar will also be

hosting an Air Freight Stream. A full list

of seminars is

available at www.multimodal.org. uk and sessions are bookable by registering for the show on-line. This year, the exhibition, which

takes place on 29 April to 1 May at the Birmingham NEC, will be held next door to the popular Commercial Vehicle Show, and will also play host to a number of leading logistics organisations.

The European Logistics Users

Providers & Enablers Group (ELUPEG), Leaders in Supply Chain (LiSC), the Logistics Leaders Network, the Transport Association,

the Rail Freight

Group, the CILT’s Transport Managers Forum, and Women in Logistics will all hold meetings at the event. The Shippers’ Village, which

this year welcomes Boots, returns to give freight buyers a private space to meet logistics suppliers. Multimodal 2014 is now

over 80% sold out with many exhibitors returning, as well as new companies exhibiting for the first time. Companies exhibiting include palletline, Ceva, Freightliner, Kewill, and Eurotunnel Freight. Last year’s show attracted over 6000 visitors and 275 exhibitors. FBJ is publishing the Show

Guide and a ‘Daily’ at Multimodal. For more details contact John
