Project forwarding at the cutting edge


There are some exciting new developments in the aerospace field that could revolutionise the transport by air of heavy liſt and project shipments in many parts of the world. But for those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground, there are plenty of land and sea alternatives.


Rickmers offers Puerto Rico connection


National Shipping of America (NSA), which operates a fortnightly service between Houston, Port Everglades, and Puerto Rico operator has gone into partnership with Rickmers- Linie (America) to provide more global connections to Puerto Rico shippers and greatly expand break bulk service opportunities to the


island. Rickmers-Linie will also serve as general sales agent for National Shipping in North America. NSA deploys the MV National


Glory, a 570 TEU, 13,800 DWT vessel sailing under the US flag and endorsed for cabotage trade under the Jones Act. It is the only vessel in the domestic Puerto Rico trade that


can carry both containers and break bulk/project cargoes, both above and under deck. Cargo can connect to or from ten-vessel,

Hansa Heavy liſt hopes for Brazil boom


Specialist shipping operator Hansa Heavy liſt has opened an office in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It will be managed by Gilberto Lima, who joins from Wasa Projects and Logistics, and has three decades of experience in shipping, much of it in project and heavy liſt cargo. “Hansa Heavy Liſt has the largest fleet in the heavy liſt market, with


ships that are on average only four years old,” he said. “We are looking forward to introducing our Latin American customers to the benefits of those specialized vessels and the care of our team of experts.” Earlier this year, the line opened


an Australian branch in Perth and also has offices in Houston and Singapore plus its headquarters


Flying boat


Chapman Freeborn and its logistics partners SPI International and Logik Logistics moved the first ever C-Worker unmanned surface vehicle from Portsmouth, UK to Lafayette, Louisiana. The 20-foot long C-Worker, which is set to revolutionise oil and gas operations, was flown on a chartered British Airways Boeing 747 freighter.

European outsized load specialist Van der Vlist recently got involved, not in airfreight, but transporting a whole plane. This wingless Fokker F27 will never fly again, so when it was picked up from its hangar in Hoofdorp, and taken 45 miles to the National Military Museum in Soesterberg, it had to graciously accept a liſt on the back of one of the haulier’s eight-axle trailers – though clearly not at the 270mph cruising speed attained during its working life.


Moving the world’s biggest scanner


Deutsche Post DHL’s air and ocean arm, DHL Global Forwarding, has delivered the world’s largest Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner from the UK to the University of Minnesota. The journey of the heavy module from Oxford to the US by road and sea started in October 2013 and took

although the project itself was almost two years in the planning.
