see the locals dragging carts loaded with the newest in plants and garden gadgets. I soon learned why. At the vendors’ stalls you are enticed with the latest in garden gadgetry, everything from tools to garden ornaments to furniture. Alas, airline weight restric- tions and my pocket book saved me from temptation. For plant nuts (and who isn’t?) the


Grand Marquee is where Britain’s best growers’ display their specialties. You won’t see more beautiful specimens anywhere. The stands are filled with the newest varieties of roses, lavender, foxgloves, chrysanthemums, hostas, vegetable and much, much more. Many of the displays are living works of art. It’s easy to spend half the day coveting the plants. This past year was Chelsea’s 100th


birthday and there were many special events marking the occasion. Here are some of the highlights:
