Sheila gave her report which involves the annual accounting work that is done with Nickerson Associates. She announced that for D.E.L.A. members that a membership to the Penobscot Marine Museum is half price. We also represented D.E.L.A. at their presentation that was held at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast. For more information, please take a look at the Director’s Report in the Maine Coastal News. Hilton brought up the diffi cult subject of fi lling Kenny Dennison’s seat.

Kenny

passed away in August, 2013 and was a dedicated D.E.L.A. Board member and good friend.

Glenn Beal stated that it is very

diffi cult to get people involved with the ever changing laws, rules, etc. All affi liations are having a hard time to fi nd people that are truly dedicated to these positions. Mike Dassatt asked Ethan Turner if he would be interested in becoming a member of the board, in return, Ethan was interested in helping with representing Kenny’s seat. Mike made the motion to nominate Ethan as

a Board member with Bob Fortin seconding. The motion passed and we welcomed Ethan as a new member of our D.E.L.A. Board of Directors with a big “Thank You.” Mike Dassatt explained the Fisheries

& Tourism meeting that he attended at the Penobscot Marine Museum. This series is sponsored by Sea Grant, University of Maine, Lobster Institute, Island Institute, Maine Aquaculture Association and Penobscot Marine Museum. The meeting basically offered an opportunity to learn how to involve the marine industry with the interests of the tourists. This is also a way to earn extra income, also by teaching tourists about our industry. If you have more questions, please contact us.

Sheila asked if we’re interested in supporting the LR 2511 Ocean Acidifi cation bill which is sponsored by Rep. Mick Devin. With further discussion, it was decided to table it until the next meeting. Terry Savage gave an update on the Zone B meeting that was held the night before. The meeting took up the licensing waiting list and also gave a ratio chart on the tags vs. licenses. The results were to change from tags out to licenses out to try to move

the waiting list forward. This should result in the waiting list moving along a little better than in the past. This isn’t big, but it is a start in the right direction. At this point in time, the waiting list results are in the hands of the Zone Councils and their vote. We still need to work on the waiting list with more suggestions such as drug testing. A fi shing license is a commercial license, the same as a CDL license, which is subject to drug testing by the law. A merchant marine license is also subject to the same.
