Dishonestteacher is banned forlife
ATEACHER at schools in Gloucestershire and Oxford- shire has been banned from the country’sclassrooms for life for his “deep-seated dis- honesty.” Adisciplinary was told that TimothyBailey,47, had con- victions for benefit fraud and been cautioned for bigamy, had failed to disclose his criminal convictions when applying for work, and had falsely claiming he was areg- istered teacher when in fact he was serving an earlier ban.
Bailey,who worked at
Wycliffe College,Stroud, and Kingham Hill School, Chipping Norton also falsely claimed his father had died and his daughter had been in aserious road traffic ac- cident. And he had falsified pupils’ scripts. In adecision announced
on behalf of Education Sec- retary Michael Gove,Bailey was permanently banned from teaching. The ban was imposed on
the recommendation of the National College for Teach- ing and Leadership (NCTL) whose disciplinary panel found that, whilst employed at Wycliffe College,Glouces- tershire,Bailey failed to disclose that he had been convicted on twocounts of benefit fraud in March 2013.
He had also claimed he was illwhen in fact he was absent from school to attend court in relation to these convic- tions. And he had not informed
the school that he was given aConditional Registration Order by the General Teach- ing Council for England or that he had been the subject of an earlier ban imposed by the General Teaching Coun- cil in 2008. The disciplinary findings added that Bailey falsified information on his applica- tion formfor employment by not declaring his criminal of- fences and by not providing accurate information about his previous employment. He also dishonestly pro- vided aletter as partofhis job application, purportedly from the GTCE stating that he was fully registered when at the time he was subject to aprohibition order. The panel found him guilty
of unacceptable professional conduct and recommended that he should be banned from teaching. Bailey is prohibited from teaching indefinitely in any school, sixth formcollege, relevant youth accommoda- tion or children’s home in England. He has aright of appeal to the High Court.
