Aiming to raise the building standards

IT’S EXCITING moving into a brand new home untouched by any previous owner’s pen- chant for a palette of outland- ish colours. NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty provider for new homes, was established over 65 years ago. Since then its aim has been

to raise standards in new house building through set- ting construction standards, inspecting at key stages of construction and providing the Buildmark warranty, the

most comprehensive new home cover in the UK. While NHBC’s Buildmark

gives protection for problems that may occur in new homes, NHBC is offering advice and support to homeowners to en- sure their purchase property stays as good as new. The company can be contact-

Make moving home stress-free and easy

MOVING into a new home is exciting and often tiring. To ease the stress of your big move, NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty and insurance pro- vider for new homes, advises you to prepare a ‘survival kit’ to keep with you on the day. Your kit should contain eve- rything you need for the first night in your new home; es- sentials like a kettle, tea bags, basic cutlery and bedding, as well as a list of important tele- phone numbers or documents you may need. Here are NH- BC’s tips for a smooth move: l Make sure your removal company is a member of the British Association of Remov- ers (BAR). Being a member of BAR ensures you can com- plain – and seek compensation – if anything goes wrong. l List everything you wish to be moved, not forgetting the

contents of your garage, loft, and shed in your inventory and give a copy to the removal company. Plan where your furniture will go in your new home and label your boxes and items accordingly. l If possible, avoid peak times to move. Bank Holidays, end of school terms and Fri- days are hectic and many re- moval firms charge more for peak time moves. Put your pets in kennels and try to ar- range childcare. If this is im- practical, keep your children’s favourite toys close to hand. l Notify your utility compa-

nies and arrange final read- ings for your water, gas and electric. Ask for your final tel- ephone bill, and for your line to be connected at your new home. Consider having your post redirected by notifying the Post Office.
