UHP, UDOT TEAMUP UTA Partners with UDOT and the UHP to Establish Safety and Image Team

In collaboration with the Utah
Department of Transportation (UDOT), Motor Carrier Division and the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), Vehicle Safety Section, the Utah Trucking Association has established a statewide commercial vehicle safety and image team. This Safety and Image Team has been instituted to: improve the image of the transportation industry, help reduce the number of crash- es statewide, and improve driver retention and recruitment. The members of this team include: Sasha
Seegmiller who is responsible for commu- nications and public relations for the asso- ciation and will represent UTA. Steve Goodrich will be representing UDOT where he is responsible for their safety planning efforts and has a tremendous background in trucking having spent a career with United Parcels Service and is a former member of the UTA. Rick Oaks is a veteran trooper who has responsibility for training commercial vehicle inspectors, maintaining outreach programs and is the reigning UTA Trooper of the Year will be representing the Utah Highway Patrol. The group is charged with the following
responsibilities:
• Enhancing commercial vehicle safety by supporting the existing programs such as Drive to Stay Alive, Truck Smart, Zero Fatalities, Truck Driver Appreciation Day, Brake Check, Road Check and many new and creative initiatives.
• Promoting all aspects of the trucking industry as an appealing and viable career choice including driving, mechanics, administration, dispatch, inspection/investigation and law

• Combine effort and resources to minimize overlap and redundancy relative to safety campaigns.
• Attend and maintain a presence at events such as; the Road Rallies, Truck Driver Appreciation Day, The Safety Management Council meetings, high school/college job fairs and other events to promote the cause.
• Plan and carry out events such as; safety
and image presentations at various locations, coordinate the attendance and arrange 4th of July and 24th of July parades, etc.
Regarding the teams’ creation, Executive
Director Rick Clasby stated, “The UTA has always enjoyed a positive and collaborative relationship with our local federal and state regulators and enforcement agencies. We
