How the Grinch Stole All the Fun


he local lesson barn had all the traditional hall- marks of a well-loved


riding establishment: kids of all ages would hang out every spare minute they weren’t in school and could do chores and earn credits to “work off” their lessons. That also meant birthday parties, summer camps, early mornings and late nights. For that lucky group of kids, the barn was everything. But for one of the neighbors, the barn was a


particular nuisance. The neighborhood Grinch did not like the kids, he didn’t like the horses, he didn’t like the kids riding the horses on his road, and he didn’t like the kids trespassing in his orchard and stealing cherries in the spring and apples in the fall. The Grinch didn’t like the smell of the manure pit, and he most certainly did not care for the extra traffic on his quiet, country road. Angry looks and

threatening phone calls did not make the children or the ponies go away. So the Grinch called social services. Was this an unlicensed day care?
