Make Their Mark I

Overseas

So many of their horses come here. And more recent- ly, some of our horses have moved over there—to Europe, that is. Over the past year, two stallions and a gelding have represented U.S. breeders at prestigious events in the three classic disciplines. Young stallions Validation S and Sandro’s Son competed at Germany’s Bundeschampionat in 2013 in jumping and event- ing respectively. And in dressage, Cinco de Mayo has proven himself a solid contender at Grand Prix. The common thread? The breeders of these three

shining athletes made careful, selective breeding choic- es and knew right from the beginning that there was something special about each one. And today, these American bred foals have grown up to score inspiring results in the most challenging venues in Europe.

successfully crossed the pond. One in particular, Valida- tion S, earned honors in 2013 at the two major European events for young horses. “Val” competed at the Bundes- championat in Warendorf, Germany and also at the WBFSH Young Horse Championships in Lanaken, Belgium. Both events are showcases for breeders, and many jumpers launch their international careers after successes at Waren- dorf and Lanaken. Foaled in 2007, Val is bred and owned by Silver Creek

Farms in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He is the son of two parents imported by Silver Creek, Vallado (Now or Never x Saros xx) and Rexana (Lansing x Capitol I). Breeders Barbara Sikkink and Summer Stoffel tell his story. “Our goal was to produce a modern sport horse with talent to compete at the top levels,” says Barbara. “We imported Vallado from Holland as a three-year-old as a hunter prospect, but we only bring hunter prospects into our program that have big scope. Val- lado won his 30-day stallion test here in North America in 2007 and then did the six-year-old Young Jumpers qualifiers to complete his stallion licensing requirements.” Vallado did change careers and now competes in hunter derbies under the name Praise. Barbara says, “Currently he
