Concern over

homes plan PARISH councillors have ex- pressed concerns about a plan to demolish industrial units in Tyland Lane, Sandling, and re- place them with housing. The outline application also

seeks to convert a Victorian barn into a dwelling to form a total of nine homes at Tyland Corner. Protestors collected a more than 100 signatures on a petition. The parish council told MBC

it had concerns, including sus- tainability of the development in a village that lacks local fa- cilities and the effect it would have on the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Other worries are access near

the Chatham Road/Tyland Lane junction, lack of on-site car parking and loss of a com- mercial site with employment potential.

Funding agreement THE parish services scheme funding agreement with Maid- stone Council has been signed by the parish council. Under the deal, the borough provides funding of £14,014 to be spent only on grounds maintenance, the war memo- rial, noticeboards and the closed churchyard.

round of applications, further plotsmay be offered to tenants. A number of plots have been designated for the disabled. Initially, only residents within the Boxley parish boundary may apply. Should vacant plots exist after January 31, 2014, the parish council will expand the qualifying zone to people living outside, but within one mile of, the parish boundary. before 9am on December 16 will be processed (again by lot) after the 3pm draw is com- pleted. Only one application per household will be ac- cepted.

WITH heavy snow again pre- dicted this winter, the parish council has issued the follow- ing advice: Roadside salt bins are placed where there is a gradi- ent or other safety issues in icy conditions endangering the public. The contents are for use on

the roadway, pavements or footpaths, not for private

Because the degree of interest

is unknown, initially only quar- ter plots (62.5 sq m, about 41ft x 16ft) and half plots (125 sq m) are available. Should plots re- main vacant after the first

drives or garden paths. Resi- dents should buy their own supply of salt from DIY stores or builders’ merchants for use on the latter. The salt should be scattered

on the road or path only where you know that traffic will drive it into the snow or ice, since this is what causes it to melt. Do not scatter it where this will not occur.

Report nuisance truckers to KCC

RESIDENTS have again been urged to write to KCC ward mem- ber Paul Carter about the nuisance caused by HGV drivers when using the layby on Old Chatham Road, Sandling, for an overnight stopover. Borough CllrWendy Hinder said she had received renewed as- surances from Cllr Carter that he was looking into the matter. She had also been been in touch with Cllr Peter Homewood, KCC ward member and Tonbridge &Malling councillor for that part of the road lying north of the Maidstone boundary, stressing the problems caused. She added: “I am not going to let it go, but it is also very important that the people of Sandling, especially from Bluebells, themselves write to Cllr Carter.” Complaints have been made about litter, obstructive parking, noise and health issues.

Fly tipping at recycling bin

PROBLEMScausedby fly-tippingnear the glass recycling bin inthe Tesco car park at Grove Green have been reported to Maidstone Council. Borough CllrWendy Hinder, who said she understood that Tesco had

been informed itwas its responsibility to clear the rubbish, said that she also had passed her concerns to the borough’s environmental services department.

ing a copy of the plot allocation procedure and application form, is available from the web- site or parish office. Plot rental fees were not available at the time of going to press but will be roughly in line with other allotments in the area.

Advice on salt bins as temperatures drop A four-pint plastic milk bot-

tle (or similar) with the bottom cut off and the lid firmly screwed onmakes a free scoop that can be left in the bin and easily replaced if it breaks. KCC should come around

and refill all the salt bins when believed necessary. If yours is missed, ring 03000 418181.

Crossing request FOLLOWING a request for a pedestrian crossing on San- dling Lane near the Running Horse, the parish council has agreed that Kent Highways be asked to investigate this possi- bility. There have been three personal injury accidents in the past three years.

New PCSO KENT Police have told the parish council that Boxley’s new PCSO cannot take up the appointment until a replace- ment is found for the PCSO’s old area.

Hospital extension THE parish council has backed plans for an extension to the Alexandra Hospital building off Impton Lane, Walderslade. Members did not wish to ob- ject.
